On 6 May 2024, Poland was jolted awake by the unexpected news that one of its judges, Tomasz Szmydt from the Administrative Court in Warsaw, was holding a press conference in Minsk, the capital of Belarus.
He announced his resignation, citing the “pro-Western hostile stance of Poland against Belarus and Russia”, and that he seeks asylum in Belarus.
