Beaty's purpose is to encourage his audience to grow through adversity just as he did. Beaty uses similes in the poem "Knock Knock" to show alikeness. In the line "walk like a man" In stanza 35. "Walk like a man" means that the child wants to learn how to be sophisticated, kind, and strong. The simile in this poem is a great way to show off the reading tool called simile.Which is a figurative speech comparing one thing to another . In knock knock the author uses symbolism at the beginning, when the speaker is three years old, "knock knock" Lines 3 and 10 refers to the father knocking on the boy's bedroom door every morning. It is the sound that anticipates parental playfulness and affection that the boy cherishes. And enjoys from his father , which goes to show symbolism because of the meaning behind him saying it .
