Words Tom Czibolya

“Embracing life to the fullest is a core value for me” – born in San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago, and raised in Queens, New York, Kadar R. Small developed a passion for people-watching and romantic movies at an early age. The Brooklyn-based photographer and filmmaker’s work centers on documenting the experiences of Black and Brown communities as well as the LGBTQ+ community in the States and beyond. “My inspiration flows from a diverse array of sources: my circle of friends, the vibrant pulse of my community, the dynamic energy of my city, the endless expanse of the internet, and magazines.”

“With the demands of daily responsibilities, I find solace in the belief that savoring life’s small moments holds equal significance to celebrating its grand milestones.”

Kadar’s pictures often feature tender and intimate portraits of Black men, challenging stereotypes associated with urban environments. His work is a deep dive into the concept of love, friendship, brotherhood, and how the beautiful bonding of human beings look like in everyday settings. “With the demands of daily responsibilities, I find solace in the belief that savoring life’s small moments holds equal significance to celebrating its grand milestones.” Kadar is part of Container Love’s latest special, Spring Is My Love, our ongoing series celebrating a new season with beautiful, new artists to discover!
