Long Beach State tied for fifth after the Beach played 36 holes Monday.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Changing formats due to impending inclement weather in North Carolina, Long Beach State Men's Golf responded well at the Chapel Hill Regional, and sit in a tie for fifth place overall in the qualifying spots after the first day of action.

With thunderstorms forecast over the next two days, the decision was reached to conclude as much play as possible on Monday, with nine of 13 teams completing 36 holes before darkness set on Monday, which included Long Beach State.

Charlie Forster finished Monday in the Top 10, while Clay Seeber was tied for 15th at the close of the day to highlight Long Beach State's opening day effort.

Forster shot a 5-under par 65 in the morning session, carding six birdies along with an eagle on 17 to get the Beach off to a hot start. He remained in the Top 10 after a 1-under second round. Seeber shot an even-par 70 in the first round and then closed the day with back-to-back birdies, shooting a 66 in the second round to climb into a tie for ninth place.

17 was a good hole for the Beach Monday, as Jack Cantlay also had an eagle on the hole, part of a fantastic finish to the day that saw the sophomore close the day at 2-under par. Steen Zeman was the team's counting score in the first round with a 73, and shot an even 70 in the second round.

Alejandro De Castro entered as a substitute in the second round and shot a one-under par 69, replacing Jaden Huggins and nabbing a counting score in the afternoon.

"I'm very happy with the performance today, lots of fight and heart. Charlie really set the pace for the team with his 5-under in the morning," said head coach Rob Murray. "Clay was a rock all day, and Alejandro coming in and shooting under par was massive, considering he hasn't played in the lineup since March, and Jack's eagle-birdie finish was also huge.

"We're right there with 18-20 holes left. Just have to keep believing and keep fighting."

East Tennessee State leads the tournament, while Clemson sits in second while still completing the second round. Hosts North Carolina sit third, Baylor is fourth and Long Beach State and Georgia Tech share fifth at 10-under par after two rounds though all four teams are within three strokes of each other.

The remaining four teams on the course will complete their second round beginning at 7:30 a.m. ET. The final round is scheduled to begin no earlier than 9:30 a.m., ET, but will be weather dependent.
