The Rookie returns with a two-part season finale, starting with the ninth episode, “The Squeeze.” Airing on ABC on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 9:00 p.m. EDT, the episode stars Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, alongside a talented cast including Mekia Cox, Alyssa Diaz, and Eric Winter.
In this episode, Nolan and Celina take on a unique case, while Monica seeks assistance in identifying her attackers. Elsewhere, Lopez and Harper uncover a connection that links a series of crimes.
As the season edges towards it’s finale Monica Stevens, a recurring character portrayed by Bridget Regan, finds herself at the center of things.
In Episode 8, “Punch Card,” Monica’s devious nature, which has slowing coming to light this season, takes a dark turn as she faces a home invasion. In a bold move, Monica grabs a gun and shoots her attacker in the foot, questioning his motives. When he confirms her suspicions that he was sent to kill her, she doesn’t hesitate to shoot his other foot.
Monica, a lawyer and a familiar antagonist, is no stranger to controversial associations. She was previously engaged to Wesley Evers, the husband of Officer Angela Lopez, and defended the villainous Elijah Stone.
Her attacker, it turns out, was sent by a client, and Monica is determined to take matters into her own hands. She manipulates her way into a prolonged hospital stay, feigning dizziness and a concussion, in the hopes of interrogating her attacker. However, her plans are thwarted by the intervening police.
Undeterred, Monica takes matters into her own hands once again, breaking into her attacker’s hospital room during a gang fight and killing him when he refuses to divulge who hired him.
