Oedipus starring Mark Strong and Lesley Manville has released some behind-the-scenes images from the marketing photo-shoot for the production.
The marketing campaign, created by Bob King, was released in March, and centres on Mark Strong (The Kingsman, A View from the Bridge, The Long Firm) as consummate political player Oedipus, at an election night rally, posing for the “holding a baby” photo opp, alongside Lesley Manville (The Crown, Mum, Flowers for Mrs Harris, Ghosts) as Jocasta.
The new production is adapted and directed by Robert Icke (Player Kings, The Doctor) after Sophocles, and is playing the West End’s Wyndham’s Theatre this autumn 2024.
The modern-day production is set on election night, with Sophocles’ epic tragedy transformed into an essential, explosive human thriller.
As already announced, joining Robert Icke in the creative team of Oedipus are Hildegard Bechtler (Set Design), Wojciech Dziedzic (Costume Design), Natasha Chivers (Lighting Design), Tom Gibbons (Sound Design), Tal Yarden (Video Design) and Julia Horan CDG (Casting Director).
Also playing in London, but next year, is another new version of Oedipus, this time by Ella Hickson for The Old Vic, starring Academy Award winner Rami Malek and Olivier Award winner Indira Varma.
The West end production of Oedipus is playing at the Wyndham’s Theatre from 4 October 2024, running to 4 January 2025.
