Best place to buy 30-40 missing pieces from a set?

LEGO® Set Build

Bought a used set on FB and it looks to be missing 30-40 pieces after going thru it. Nothing to crazy, just random regular parts. So what’s the best way to go about buying the missing parts? I have all the part numbers written down. I went to the pick a brick section on the Lego site and after picking all the ones I needed, it was charging me $18.95 for shipping and handling. Did I do it wrong? Surly there are other places where it’s only $4-$5 shipping on $6 worth of Lego’s right? Maybe not. Anyone have any tips or recommendations?

On the Pick a Brick page, there are two types of pieces; Bestseller and Standard. Each have a separate shipping charge below a certain threshold. So if you have a small number of each of the two types of parts, you will be charged shipping on both.

If you're not ordering a lot of parts, it may be cheaper to order through Bricklink.com, especially if you can find one seller with all of the parts, so there is only one shipping fee.

Check to see if you have a Bricks and Minifigures store near you. All the ones I have been to have a bulk table of loose pieces that contain thousands of pieces of all types. Fairly cheap for a small bucket or bag, cheaper than ordering from Lego or eBay. Seen many people with lists of missing parts just like what you are doing.

There are a handful of independent used Lego stores near me as well as a couple of independent toy stores which have bulk tables. Some of the Half Price Books stores (chain of used books stores) even have small racks of bins with used bricks. These are great for sourcing bricks, as long as you're willing to dig through looking for exactly the parts you need. It can be tedious, but it's definitely the cheapest method.

Go to BrickLink, create a account, then look up the set. Go to the parts list, click each part you need, and add it to your wish list. From there you can go into the wish list and click Easy Buy and it will try to find a seller that has all the items.

It's super convenient.

If you are missing pieces of your Lego set, be sure to:

  • Double check the plastic bag. Pieces like to hide in the corners!

  • Check for another bag with the same number, especially if you are missing a lot of parts.

  • Peek inside the box. Larger parts are sometimes loose or together in a non-numbered bag.

  • Look back over previous steps to see if you've mistakenly used the piece earlier in the build.

  • Inspect the floor in case you've dropped the piece.

  • Contact Lego Customer Service for free replacement parts.
