Just finished The Mirror Crack'd!

BOOK

My first Marple novel, and the first Christie work I've read in a long while. Any suggestions as to what work of Christie's I ought to read next?

Depends..

Did you enjoy the story? The characters? The way Miss Marple solved the crime?

If so, you might want to try either The Body in the Library or Murder at the Vicarage..

Adored the story— and what an ending. I've read more than one Poirot, and as much as I love him, I think Miss Marple has me hooked in a different way. I'll look into MatV— I saw an adaptation years ago with Tim McInnerny as the vicar but I've more or less completely forgotten how it goes.

Oh, I enjoyed that adaptation and recently rewatched it.. although I can’t really remember if there were too many deviations from the original story..

That said, the ITV version had a phenomenal cast apart from Tim McInnerny and Geraldine McEwan (such as Derek Jacobi, Rachel Stirling, Janet McTeer etc)..

I had forgotten Derek Jacobi was in it, for that matter, and that was a perfect role (or so I think; I'll let you know once I've read Murder at the Vicarage!) - but I really liked Geraldine McEwan; hers was the mental image I carried of Miss Marple in reading The Mirror Crack'd.

Thank you so much for the recommendations!

My pleasure. I hope you enjoy both books as much as I did..

(Funny about your user name.. it immediately reminded me of the Brother Cadfael series I read decades ago..)

This is one of my least favorite of her books. It was so obviously based on Gene Tierneys tragic story. I liked the Elizabeth Taylor movie, but Angela Lansbury blew it as Miss Marple for me when she was having an after dinner cigarette while sitting at the table, musing over the crime…

If you're getting enamored by Miss Marple you should read The Thirteen Problems. Short stories in which Miss Marple absolutely shines!
