Cats On the Board on First Day of WAC

OREM, Utah – Abilene Christian finished off the first day of the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships with 22 total points on Thursday.
 
The ACU men are in fourth with 14 points and the women are seventh with eight points.
 
Kaitlyn Callaway threw the hammer 144 feet, 9.5 inches in her final toss to claim second place for the Wildcats.
 
Katelyn Coldicott just missed points in the women's 10K in ninth place at 38:54.98.
 
The ACU men scored in two events with Sutton Welch (183-6.75) and Rylan Smart (176-9.25) getting fourth and fifth in the men's hammer through.
 
Kevin Castruita and Levi Chambers scored in the men's 10K with Castruita getting fifth at 31:12.15 and Chambers finishing eighth at 31:23.42.
 
ACU also pushed two 1500 entrants into the finals. Bella Evans was third in the women's event at 4:36.68 and Garrison Shindler was 14^th in the men's event at 3:56.50.
 
Canaan Fairley leads the decathlon going into the second day and Ethan Christian is eighth after five events.
 
Eliza Lemberga is third and Natalie Poe is sixth in the heptathlon with three events to go.
