One person was seriously injured during a head-on crash on Route 138 in Griswold late Tuesday.

The crash was reported around 8:20 p.m. just west of Arthur’s Way, according to Connecticut State Police.

State police said a 2016 Ford F-150 being driven west by a 36-year-old Massachusetts man breached the eastbound lane and struck a 2013 Hyundai Elantra that was headed in the opposite direction. The driver side of the pickup truck hit the driver side of the Hyundai, which sent the vehicle into the eastbound shoulder before it struck a mailbox and stopped, according to state police.

The Ford continued west and struck a metal beam guardrail in the shoulder of the road before it came to rest, state police said.

The Hyundai driver, a 55-year-old Voluntown man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Hartford Hospital, state police said.

The Ford driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Backus Hospital. A passenger in the Ford also suffered minor injuries but declined medical treatment, according to state police.

The crash remains under investigation.

Any witnesses or drivers in the area with dashboard camera footage have been asked to contact Trooper Christopher Brett at 860-848-6540.
