Am I supposed to have 10 storage containers options

Answered

If this is normal, then what’s the difference between them?

Yes, it’s normal. The only difference is what you put in them.

Also I have another question… HOW DO I OPEN THE DANG DOOR OF MY BASE

u/Defiant-Giraffe avatar

Doors are stupidly complicated.

Putting power to a door closes it. Simple enough, right?

But if you want auto opening doors, or doors that open via switch, this is what you need to do:

Install a prox switch and a power inverter near the door (one prox will work the door from both sides).

Run power to the left side of both devices.

Run a wire from the right side of the switch to the bottom lug of the power inverter.

Run a wire from the right side of the power inverter to the door.

Why can’t we just have pressure plates like Minecraft😭

u/SerEmrys avatar

Just do holo doors

It's easier

There are pressure plates…but you have to wire them correctly.

Those we have too

Minecraft has redstone and frikkin logic gates. Let's not act like it's a simpler approach, it's just one that you're already familiar with.

Alternatively you can use the panel doors from the timber/stone/alloy doors

more reply More replies

There is a floor switch you can unlock. You still need the inverter, though.

It's possible to use the automatic wood / stone / metal doors if you use the freeplacing option, if you get the positioning just right you can only see the door part of it, you need to put a normal door in first. This assumes you are using the doors on the round and square base things.

u/cjamesfort avatar

I don't know what all those complex instructions were for, so I'm going to assume something with prefabs. The doors for wood, stone, and metal buildings are all unpowered and automatic; just place it, and you're done. You don't need any wiring or whatever for a simple door.

You can, but to make them work goes absolutely against everything I learned about electronics...

I actually think it's a pretty cool mechanic, that they made doors work like that!

u/MagicSwatson avatar

So cool no one who plays casually ever uses it

Putting power to a door closes it

Basic and easy way to wire doors

u/uNk4rR4_F0lgad0 avatar

It depends, but putting a button and connecting with a wire is the easiest way

Ah ok. I had powered the door from the inside and I couldn’t get out😭

You need an inverse switch on the door for powered rooms like the biodome. Most doors are open when powered off and closed when powered on

Ok thanks

Yes, you’re supposed to. You can rename them using the following conventions to give them images rather than text, which makes it much easier to see (almost) all containers on your freighter.

Thanks, man I have so much to learn in this game

u/ParChadders avatar

I’m almost 2,000 hours in and still learning things. That’s one of the reasons I love it 😂

Oh. After more than 500h it t is totally new for me.

United fan, let me guess... You don't live in Manchester?

u/ParChadders avatar

Born in Manchester, moved to London to go to Uni, came back to Manchester after about 15 years in London. Not quite sure of the relevance but as you asked 🤷‍♂️

if you put a storage 1 in one location and a storage 1 in another location they will have the same contents

so each number is a different storage container but any two matching container numbers will have the same contents

This is super useful, that isn’t obvious to new players. Should be higher up

Yeah that's what makes them really useful. I have a storage container dedicated to the output from my various gas and mineral farms. So when I make the rounds to harvest resources, I pull them from the depot and just drop them in the storage container. Then when I get back to my freighter, I know exactly where to find them without them ever cluttering up my exosuit, starship, or main freighter storage.

u/2screens1guy avatar

Wow. This is ground-breaking news to me! I've been teleporting back and forth between bases to grab material and resources for the last 70~ hours. I feel so dumb, I knew there had to be a better way but I refuse to read guides until I am completely stuck. Thank you so much!

It's kinda like having 10 ender chests, each with their own inventory.

Storage vaults can be renamed, I use "0,1,2" etc so they ALLshow up on one text line.

Yep, and even then, it will eventually feel like not enough

Yes, the first two you'll fill up with scrap metal that you keep collecting for some reason.

I'll use them some day, I swear

My biggest complaint so far with this game is how much I have to constantly look up on the web. Including how annoyingly complicated a simple door is. Love the game but some of the design decisions are confusing. Wish there were far more in-game tooltips that gave you faster information on everything.

All numbered storage containers will contain the same contents. If you put an upgrade in storage 1 at your base, then go to a different galaxy and build storage 1 there, you'll be able to get your upgrade from it.

Works with freighter storage too.

All the slots in storage containers hold double stacks. If max stacks for something is 5, in the storage it can be 10. 20 becomes 40. Only thing that doesn't change are resources on normal where the max is 9999. That won't double.

It's because you only have ome of each per base (and each one shares with matching ones on other bases like an ender chest)

Yes for organization. You use them ALL

For storage I only use the first 4, on my freighter and in my base. Plenty of storage.

Yes, why do you ask? No diff just more storage. Although it would be nice if you opened one up if you could scroll through all of them and it would tell you what number you are on so you can keep in organized. Also if you just dump an item, now it stuffs it into first available slot, to a specific container which would just require a prompt to the user. Then if you could name each container that would make it so much easier.

Container #0 - My building consumables bla, bla bla

Drag and drop to a specific container ;-)

I didn’t know you could access items from different places through the different containers so it had me confused as to why I needed 10 different ones lol

If you build them at your base you can dump stuff to them but NMS will just put it in the first open slot. However, if you build the containers on a freighter and the freighter is in the same system you are then you can access the freighter and use the right/left arrow keys to access all the containers. I've stopped putting those containers at my bases just be cause it's easier and faster to access via freighter

I mean.... you do? It starts at 0 so if you count... you have 10.

Worth noting that placing a container of the same number on another planet then you can access the same contents in the same numbered box across worlds.

Yes and they will link with storage on your freighter by numbers.

yes

I just leave it open. But if you’re in a zone that has hazardous weather and you’re in a pinch, mine a hole you can crawl into and the elements won’t get ya.

They aren't really "options". If you play minecraft a all, each number works like an ender chest. You can lay a dozen number "1" chests at different bases, and the items in that number chest will be available at all of the different locations. Put plants in in chest "2", access them at all your different farm locations. Put mining stuff in "3", and put a "3" in all your mine base locations.

Yes, the storage units are connected. I believe you can place storage units 1-10 one time in each star system? Or maybe at each base? I’m not exactly sure how frequently you can place them but you can have them on your freighter as well as your bases and they are all connected.. so the carbon in unit 1 (for example) will be there at every base and your freighter if you have the unit 1 placed there

Yes.

Yes, each one is a different storage container. If you only build one you will only have 1/10th the storage capacity you would otherwise enjoy. Build all ten on your freighter and equip your freighter with the teleporter upgrade you you will have access to all of that storage from anywhere in the system your freighter is currently in

The wires going to the upwards attach to your electric but you can ethier use the proximity switch to auto open your doors from both sides or a button/switch ect buttons open & close again really fast so I always use the switch but have on a wall I can still see if I angle my camera towards wherever you decided to put & even if you want to try hide the switch being seen by other players trying to gain access to you base I usually place loads of dummy switches that will block there view from seeing the real switch as you place somewhere out of the norm for most People to look for you can pretty easily get in & out + have a pretty secure way 2 lock up your bases ✌️

If you don't have enough space you can use the universal adjacency scale glitch to make smaller to have them easily fit in alot tighter space

This is the way 👆

I was replying to your message specifically because by the sounds of you didn't know how the have to be set up in order to power ethier an electric door or a garage door but if you already knew how what was the trouble with answering his question then not that it really matters at least both of you know & maybe next time you might actually be able to help someone with some useful knowledge in stead of telling them they got to wire them correctly like they clearly must tried wiring up there door with they electrical switch without luck so really doing them a massive favour by stating the fuck obvious 🤷

You not think this when you get a freighter set up with these as storage rooms each hold around 50 item but what really kl about them if you build whatever number box on a planet you can then access all item that are stored in your freighter without it having a item teleporter or is even in the same system as you,& you can build all 10 on every single planet giving full access to a good 500 storage on any planet right to you instantly by building the number you need your items from specifically or every item you got stored+ 1 more thing I noticed when on npc freighter if they have any of these built when you interact with it,it shows your items for you storage but on an NPC ship that allows you to get access to even just a partial amount of your full 10xstorage container of,most often the NPC ship I've came across usually have container 1,2,3 on there ship but never saw 1 with more than just they 3 tho

There nowt basic about it or you basically haven't a clue what you can actually do with them & the ability to move massive amounts of resources from 1st dimension all the way to the last just building these ethier on your freight or on a planet fill them up with anything at all & then instantly teleport all store items as many times over as you want for any part of the galaxy or dimension but clearly you knew or why even ask the question the clearly you have no clue why you need 10 of these, any experienced player will tell you these are essential if you want to actually have enough space to store things for selling that is actual worth it,I'm only 50 something hour into my new save & I'm a literal bawhair off my 1st Billion units & another 100k nanites that your definitely going to want alot of once you start upgrading anything up to S-class

I get glitching these small might be abit of a pain but the actual storage just built normally is what it's really useful for
