‘Waller’ was confirmed for development in 2022 as a spinoff of ‘Peacemaker’, featuring Viola Davis reprising her role as the titular character. Recent confirmations indicate that the show will deviate from the comedy-oriented style of ‘Peacemaker’, reflecting Waller’s serious demeanor.

Initially slated for a 2024 release, James Gunn’s current focus on other DCU projects suggests a potential delay, with the best-case scenario being a 2025 release. However, some sources still mention a 2024 release date.

In light of the recent announcements about ‘Peacemaker’ season 2, fans queried Gunn on social media about the timeline of the upcoming show. Gunn, always helpful, clarified that it would take place after the events of the second season of ‘Peacemaker’.

Recently, Gunn sparked controversy by confirming that certain DCEU events will be considered canon within the DCU.

Frank Grillo was cast as Rick Flag Sr. in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2, having already been confirmed to voice the character for the animated show. This aligns with Gunn’s earlier statement during the presentation of the DCU, expressing his desire for voice actors to reprise their roles in live-action projects.

However, this announcement was followed by confirmation that Flag Sr. will have a vendetta against Peacemaker, who, as we know, was responsible for the death of Flag Jr. in ‘The Suicide Squad.’

The clash between the original DC Universe and James Gunn’s revamped DCU seems inevitable, despite Gunn’s assertion that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 is set within the DCU. Despite his assurances that it won’t be confusing, the conflicting visions are heading towards a collision.

If Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag is part of the DCU, then it stands to reason that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, and potentially Henry Cavill’s Superman, given Davis’ appearance in the post-credit scene of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, also exist within that universe.

‘Waller’ and ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 will be filmed consecutively, leading to confusion among fans. Some are puzzled by Gunn’s earlier statements that ‘Peacemaker’ season 1 is not canon to the DCU, while also emphasizing a smooth transition between the two universes and retaining certain ‘Suicide Squad’ events as canon.
