Watson is an upcoming American television series set to air on CBS. The series, described as a "medical drama with detective elements," is centered around the character of Dr. John Watson from Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories.[1]
It is the second Holmes-based series from CBS, following Elementary, which shares many of the same creative team; the two programs are otherwise unrelated.
Synopsis[edit]
One year after the death of Sherlock Holmes, Dr. John Watson, now head of a clinic specializing in rare disorders, finds himself pitted against his friend's killer, the criminal mastermind Moriarty.
Cast[edit]
- Morris Chestnut as John Watson, a physician and former consulting detective who now heads the Holmes Clinic, which specializes in rare disorders.
- Rochelle Aytes as Mary Morstan, a noted East Coast surgeon and Watson's ex-wife who currently serves as the clinic's Medical Director.
- Peter Mark Kendall as Stephens Croft and Adam Croft, identical twin brothers serving as surgeons at the clinic.
- Eve Harlow as Ingrid Derian, an acerbic yet highly skilled neurologist with an enigmatic past.
- Inga Schlingmann as Sasha Lubbock, a charismatic specialist in both rheumatology and immunology.
- Ritchie Coster as Shinwell Johnson, a former criminal acquaintance of Holmes and Watson who works as the clinic's Administrative Aide.
Production[edit]
Watson was announced in October 2022, to be created, written, produced and showrun by Craig Sweeny who had previously worked on Elementary.[2] The show was given a straight to series order, bypassing the pilot stage.[3]
By January 2024, Morris Chestnut was attached to executive produce and star as the title character.[4] Executive producer Larry Teng will direct the first episode.[5] In May, Peter Mark Kendall and Ritchie Coster were announced as the first core cast additions.[6] In June, Rochelle Aytes was cast as Mary Morstan[7], followed by Eve Harlow and Inga Schlingmann.[8]
The series will be shot in Vancouver in June 2024, although the show's setting will be Pittsburgh.[9][10]
Release[edit]
The series is scheduled to premiere in the mid-season replacement for the 2024–25 television season on CBS.[11] The show will be available to stream on Paramount+.
