Captain America and Purge star Frank Grillo will lend his voice to the second season of James Gunn’s Peacemaker action comedy series tied to the DC universe.

On Friday, Gunn, in an Instagram post, announced Grillo was joining the cast in the role of Rick Flag Sr. for the next cycle of the original Max series. Among DC characters, Flag Sr. led the first Suicide Squad, or Task Force X. His son, Rick Flag Jr., is the current leader of the Suicide Squad.

Grillo in Peacemaker will voice Rick Flag as an animated character as part of “Creature Commandos” during the second season. “Christopher Smith and Rick Sr have a little unfinished business to take care of…,” Gunn teased in the social media post that included a photo of himself with Grillo.

Grillo is a familiar face in Hollywood action projects, having played key parts in films like Warrior and The Grey, as well as the villain Brock Rumlow/Crossbones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His other credits include Kingdom, Hitman’s Wife’s, Bodyguard and Lamborghini, based on the life story of Lamborghini founder Ferruccio Lamborghini.

The sophomore run for Peacemaker is written and directed by Gunn and will once again will star John Cena as Christopher Smith, aka The Peacemaker. As in the first season, Cena reprises his role as a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.

Gunn wrote all eight episodes of Peacemaker for season two and is directing three, including the first episode. Gunn and Peter Safran serve as executive producers on the series, with Cena as co-executive producer.

Based on characters from DC, Peacemaker is produced by Gunn’s Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company, in association with Warner Bros. Television. Grillo is represented by CAA, Entertainment 360, 42West and Paul Hastings.
