Currency conversion for Prague

I'll be travelling to Austria and Prague at the end of the month from India. We are planning to carry a forex card and cash (euros). However, we are not sure about Prague, since the local currency is acceptable there. I read somewhere we need card to travel in local transports and forex card isn't useful there. Can anyone suggest the amount of cash and which card should I carry. I have been suggested a lot of different applications. I'll be staying in Austria for 8 days and 3 days Prague. Also, do we need an international credit to travel for security deposit in hotel?

Is Revolut card available where you are? That is the most frequent mentioned.

How are you making hotel reservations without a credit card? Or to at least reserve a hotel? Does the Forex secure a reservation?

Do you not have a normal bank card for purchases at home?.. for shopping, restaurants. Czech is very card friendly, use your bank card like at home.

I would also use a card, these days if the country is card friendly, the rates are much better than exchange to cash

I haven't used cash in the Czech Republic for years - just use a card as you would at home.

A Forex card is like a Revolut card, they are the same thing. I have never used either and don't understand why anyone would rather than just using a regular debit card or credit card. The idea is the same, obviously, to charge something.

If a Revolut card would be accepted, I don't know why the Forex card wouldn't but public transportation isn't that expensive, just buy the type of tickets you need with the card at a metro station. They say you can use a contactless credit card, so I don't know. You can buy a 3 day pass for only the equivalent of about 13 euro.

I have no idea how these cards work (Revolut or Forex), they must work like a credit or debit card I presume or what's the point of them. If so, get some local currency from an ATM with that card and use it to buy a travel pass. I think a 3 day pass is 330 CZK but you can get tickets from a machine in a metro station.

@ChristinaW - Revolut/Wise, etc are basically debit cards and are Visa-branded

Exactly, Revolut is not some special type of a card. Revolut is a bank and issues regular Visa Debit for their accounts. The only difference is that their product is heavily geared towards currency conversion.

Hi Rach , Im from India too, last couple of times I been to France & Italy ( I think it will apply to Czechia as well) - the ticket machines in the train stations doesnt accept forex or debit cards. Even if you have “international” transactions enabled on your card . It doesn’t accept , I saw many people were facing this issue. Thankfully I was carrying my credit card (Hdfc Regalia) and it worked fine.

So I think as long as you have a international Credit (visa/mastercard) card , you can easily puchase tickets without any issues.

Hope this helps!
