The Tihar Jail in Delhi on Tuesday received a bomb threat, marking an addition to a string of  similar threats received by the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, over 20 hospitals, and more than 100 schools across the national capital region (NCR) this month.

The jail administration informed the Delhi Police about receiving an e-mail. Searches were carried out inside the Tihar Jail complex. However, the threat turned out to be a hoax, as nothing was found after the search, reported news agency ANI.

Earlier today, four hospitals – GTB Hospital, Dada Dev Hospital, Hedgewar Hospital, and Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital – located in the national capital, received bomb threats through emails. The bomb disposal squad, bomb detection team, fire department, and the local police rushed to the area to perform searches, the officials said, but nothing was discovered.

On Sunday, the IGI Airport and over half a dozen government hospitals in the national capital received bomb threats via emails, all turning out to be hoaxes.

Interestingly, on May 1, more than 150 schools in Delhi-NCR received threatening emails claiming that explosives had been planted in their premises, triggering massive evacuations and searches as panic-stricken parents rushed to pick up their children.

“Nothing objectionable” was discovered during searches by authorities which later declared it a hoax.

The anti-terror unit of Delhi Police has traced the domain of emails to Russia, and it is suspected to have been formed with the help of the dark web – encrypted online content that allows individuals to conceal their identity and location from others.
