St. Vincent for the “No, But Actually” Award for Excellence Heretofore Unrecognized by Las Cultch

live show/event

I’ve been listening to the pod for 4ish years but don’t believe I’ve ever heard reference to/flowers for Annie Clark?

Feels like she’d be Bowen’s taste (“New York” is VERY Matt and Bowen coded, feel like Matt could get into Masseduction for sure), she was an Antonoff collaborator for two albums and Cruel Summer, collabed with Olivia Rodrigo on some songs, and a ton of artists play her signature guitar (which is such a serve).

Given her stature in queerdom, campy visuals, and occasional mainstream adjacency I’m surprised she hasn’t come up at all unless I missed mention during the Masseduction era?

LCCAFYC No, But Actually, St. Vincent is so, so good and we should talk about it

Big Time Nothing and Broken Man are bops!!! I love her return to her old sound

Excellent points! Masseduction is one of my favorite albums period, readers you must see the St. Vincent featuring DULA PEEP Grammy performance, very fun. Thank YOU, publicist, for reminding me to listen to her new album!

Oh LOVE the One Kiss/Masseduction performance. And all her hall of fame induction/tribute performances for that matter.

The new album’s a trip! entirely self produced, lots of fun genre hopping, super lush.

I think she went pretty damn mainstream more than 4 years ago.

I don’t know if one is mainstream adjacent when they are performing a mashup (and eye-fucking and having searing chemistry) with Dua Lipa on the Grammy Awards. That is just straight up mainstream. And that was 2019.

I think mostly WLW care about the shenanniegans of St. Vincent. And since that Grammy performance I have hardly seen Annie in any media at all..

I started watching that movie Annie and Carry Brownstein made together…it was sadly pretty boring and not how I imagined. Oh well.

Idk maybe you should finish it??? I felt it was a 🆒 meditation on the relation of the art vs the artist, and the complications that can arise. If you go in expecting David Lynch surreal slow pacing maybe that’ll help???? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
