Best album to start listening her non-Caroline-Polachek work?

Question

I'm really obsessed with Desire and I really love Pang as well, but now I want to start exploring her discography not released under her name (Chairlift, Ramona Lisa, CEP). What's the best album to start getting into her other pseudonyms?

Honestly anything but CEP. Both the Ramona Lisa and Chairlift’s albums are very accessible. I’d say either Arcadia or Moth.

CEP’s album is really good too, but it’s ambient music.

Chairlift the “something” album in its entirety, in order, in your car or on transit

^^^^

The music videos from Something are all great. They put together consistent art direction with a "karaoke" theme that worked. Something was the album that Chairlift became a great band. I Belong is a pop song for the ages. And Sidewalk Safari might be the funniest song of 2012. It's horror-comedy.

I so agree about i belong! Its literally perfect

since others recommended the albums i’ll recommend some song highlights :)

bruises, evident utensil, amanaemonesia, i belong in your arms, backwards and upwards, izzit true what they tell me, romeo, ch-ching

Personally, for me I would start with the Chairlift albums as they are the most similar to current Caroline’s vibe.

‘Something’ is a great one to start with, I especially like the first four songs in the album (great run): Sidewalk Safari, Wrong Opinion, I Belong In Your Arms, Take It Out On Me, and then Amanaemonesia and Guilty As Charged. It is currently my favourite Chairlift album.

‘Does You Inspire You’ doesn’t catch my eye very much. I like the song ‘Bruises’, but wish it were only Carolines vocals. It definitely has a very self made grungy feel to it at times. It didn’t really catch my eye (ear?) so I haven’t listened to it much to be fair :)

I’m sort of in your position because I have not listened to her whole discography. I have ‘Moth’ next but have heard two songs from the album and love the song ‘Crying in Public’.

Don’t get me wrong, Ramona Lisa is good. But the first time I listened, I felt like I was having an electronic medieval mental breakdown. Feels like I need to listen more to fully appreciate it. It made my ears feel like they were going on a journey through time and emotions. I most appreciated ‘Backwards and Upwards’, ‘Getaway Ride’, ‘Dominic’ and ‘Izzit True What They Tell Me’.

CEP is an interesting project because ‘Drawing the Target Around the Arrow’ is made only using Sine waves. The album is instrumental. If not for the CEP artist name, I would have no idea she made it, as it is something very different.

:)

Chairlift’s Moth album is fantastic. I would start with that
