For two seasons, fans hoped the romance between Good Omens' Crowley and Aziraphale would finally happen. However, the heartbreaking Season 2 finale only gave a glimpse of what it could become, but it's not all lost, at least in David Tennant's opinion.

The Prime Video original show Good Omens is based on Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s acclaimed 1990 novel Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch. The series, starring Michael Sheen and David Tennant debuted in 2019 with Season 2 following in the summer of 2023. The fantasy TV series was officially renewed for a third and final season in December 2023, and fans hope it will remedy the heartbreaking Season 2 finale.

Speaking with Michelle Visage on the BAFTA TV Awards red carpet (via RadioTimes), lead actor David Tennant also addressed what fans can expect from the final season. He also teased more romance between his character, Crowley, and Sheen's Aziraphale. When asked whether Season 3 will no longer include kisses between the characters, Tennant replied: "Well, you don't know how many we've got lined up for series 3. I mean, neither do I, to be honest but, you know."

Tennant couldn't help but hype up the series: Tennant also spoke about his experience filming the series, saying: "It's deeply joyous. I mean, mainly because I get to hang out with Michael every day and talk nonsense." He continued, "And they're great scripts, and it's just a brilliant, kind of mad, crazy world."

Good Omens Creator Addressed the Upcoming Season 3

Good Omens follows the story of two unlikely friends, the angel Aziraphale and the former-angel-turned-demon Crowley, who had lived on Earth since the beginning of time. Throughout the years, the two teamed up to protect humanity several times. In the season 2 finale, Crowley finally confessed his feelings for Crowley after Metatron arrived and offered Aziraphale Gabriel's former position and the ability to restore Crowney's status as an angel. Instead of accepting, Crowley told Aziraphale to abandon Heaven and Hell and run away together. Unfortunately, Aziraphale refused and asked Crowley to return to Heaven as an angel. The finale shows Aziraphale leaving Crowley (and Earth) to go work for Heaven.

Speaking on what's planned for the third and final season, creator Neil Gaiman explained, "Season One was all about averting Armageddon, dangerous prophecies, and the End of the World. Season Two was sweet and gentle, although it may have ended less joyfully than a certain Angel and Demon might have hoped. Now in Season Three, we will deal once more with the end of the world. The plans for Armageddon are going wrong. Only Crowley and Aziraphale working together can hope to put it right. And they aren't talking."

The final installment will be based on Gaiman and Pratchett’s originally planned sequel. "I'm so happy finally to be able to finish the story Terry and I plotted in 1989 and in 2006. Terry was determined that if we made Good Omens for television, we could take the story all the way to the end," he said in a statement when the Season 3 renewal was announced.

Addressing when fans can expect Good Omens Season 3, Gaiman noted, "You know, Dead Boy Detectives comes out in 10 days. I’ve seen half of Sandman Season 2, and it’s astonishing. I’m writing Good Omens Season 3, and we start shooting that in January," he revealed.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Good Omens are available on Prime Video.
