The Bucketheads were the brainchild of US producer and DJ Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez.

You may remember back in March 1995 their top 5 hit The Bomb, which was based around a sample of "street sounds flowing through my mind" from the song Street Player by Chicago.

Now they have taken the line "got myself together" ( and the trumpet break ) from the 1976 funk classic Movin' by Brass Construction and built a song around that.

Got Myself Together entered and peaked at number 12 - the last hit for the Bucketheads.

Kenny Gonzalez had hits under lots of other names - Masters At Work , Nuyorican Soul amongst others

Sunscreem came from Chelmsford in Essex and took their name from the sound from a Yamaha synthesizer.

Fronted by singer Lucia Holm, the group had 8 top 40 hits - this song White Skies was number 6 and peaked at number 25.

Sunscreem's biggest hit was Broken English - number 13 in 1993.

    Was this before "Jonathan Creek"?

If I heard this one before, I don't remember doing so. It seem like they have taken some sound from some decent disco records and try to put them together in an effect that ultimately fails

Missed the opening. Luckily, it doesn't seem like I missed much in terms of quality.

This was before Jonathan Creek and QI.

I think he was previously in a Channel 4 comedy One For The Road, which I never saw , and he was a stand up comic as well.

Huh, just discovered that the UK slang for a cigarette is swear filtered here. How odd

It has been for years. That word can also be used as an insult hence why it’s asterisked if used on here. You can use the @ to replace the ‘a’

Very annoying insular colonial attitudes by the presumably American makers of the software.

    Colour me uninterested.

Coolio follows up Gangsta's Paradise with Too Hot - his 2nd top 10 hit which entered and peaked at number 9.

The song was Coolio's warning about the dangers of HIV and to practise safe sex.

The song samples Too Hot by Kool and the Gang from 1980.

The caption says "Currently in the US Top 20" - it's not - it is number 46 on this week's US Hot 100 - it peaked at number 24 so never made the top 20.

So Coolio had another hit I see. Not a patch on Gangstas Paradise.

Three poor songs in a row to kick off the show

Lush were an indie rock band formed in London in 1987. They were led by singer Miki Berenyi ( whose mother was an actress appearing in TV series The Protectors, Space 1999 and the Bond movie You Only Live Twice amongst others ).

They appeared on Top of the Pops twice in 1996:

    Single Girl - number 21
Ladykillers - number 22 which we will see in March.

The year ended tragically for the group - in October 1996 drummer Chris Acland took his own life at the age of just 30 - the group went on an extended break eventually splitting in early 1998.

This is more like like it.

Recommend Miki Berenyi's 'Fingers Crossed' as a cracking read.
