Girlfriend of Aussie surfer shares heartbreaking text message he sent months before being murdered in Mexico

The girlfriend of Australian surfer Callum Robinson who was murdered in Mexico has revealed a heartbreaking message he sent saying he was looking forward to their life together.

Emily Howarth recently shared a compilation of some of the pair's happiest moments together and said she was 'missing weekends' with the 33-year-old lacrosse star who had relocated to her native San Diego.

The reel included the couple dancing, on nights out with friends and hanging out at the beach with his dog and included a message Callum sent to her months before he was killed alongside his brother Jake and friend Jack Rhoad in an alleged carjacking.

'Nawwww this is awesome, I just watched it B2B at least 5 times,' Robinson wrote on July 17.

'I appreciate you collecting and visually framing our memories, something you're exceptionally good at and I enjoy so much.

'I'm excited to create many more with you veryyyyyy soon.'

Mexican authorities said bandits attacked the three surfers to steal the tires off their truck before killing them all and dumping their bodies in a disused well by the coast

Three Mexican nationals - alleged ringleader Jesus Gerardo Garcia Cota, his girlfriend Ari Gisel Garcia Cota and his brother Christian Alejandro Garcia - have been arrested and charged with kidnapping.

Mexican prosecutors have said they believe the surfers were killed in a robbery after they disappeared in the Baja California region on April 27.

The three men's remains were found at the bottom of a well, about 2km from Rosarito, where they had been booked into an AIrbnb but not shown up.

Each had a single gunshot wound to the head.

The Australian brother's parents Martin and Debra Robinson travelled to the region and spoke from San Diego where they shared their heartbreak over their sons' deaths.

'It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that Callum and Jake have been murdered,' Ms Robinson said.

'Our hearts are broken and the world has become a darker place for us.

'We also mourn the loss of Carter Rhoad, a close friend.

'They were young men enjoying their passion of surfing together.

'Now it's time to bring them home to family and friends - and the ocean waves in Australia. Please live bigger, shine brighter and love harder in their memory.'

She said thanked those who had offered their condolences and said they had been 'overwhelmed with the outpouring of emotions and support'.

'We have always been very proud of their academic and sporting achievements and admired their life choices,' Ms Robinson said.

She spoke of Callum's 'larger than life character' and his sporting achievements including playing professional lacrosse in America.

She described Jake as a 'happy, gentle and compassionate soul' who was pursuing a career in medicine.

'Jake's passion was surfing and it was no coincidence that many of his hospitals that he worked in were close to surfing beaches.'

In yet more tragic circumstances, the brothers' American friend Jack Carter Rhoad was engaged to be married in a matter of months.

The recruitment worker from San Diego was due to marry his fiancée Natalie Wiertz and had joined Australian brothers Callum and Jake Robinson for the road trip down the Pacific coast before his big day.

Natalie, 32, had just enjoyed her bachelorette party in Florida's Key West in April, where the beaming bride-to-be was pictured partying with her friends.

Carter, originally from Atlanta, announced his engagement to Natalie on his last Facebook post in July 2023.

Tragically, the timer is still ticking down on the webpage for what was to have been their wedding this August in Columbus, Ohio.

Carter had visited Mexico throughout his adult life after volunteering for a medical mission in Guatemala at 19.

'Obstacles are just opportunities in costumes,' he wrote on his LinkedIn page. 'They can be scary or they can be fun just depends on how you look at them.

'Building genuine relationships is one of the most rewarding things in life, and I feel humbled every day by the people who surround me.'

Natalie, a clothing designer for Vanity Fair Brands in San Diego, looked radiant as her upcoming wedding was celebrated by friends in the Florida sunshine.

Carter had joined his friends for the road trip south after the two brothers enjoyed a weekend at the Coachella Festival.

Baja-California's attorney-general , María Andrade Ramírez, said the murder investigation would probe whether the men were killed in an alleged robbery.

The style of the executions have sparked fears locally about the possible involvement of drug cartels which are rife in the region (pictured: the trio's vehicle was later found burnt-out in the Santo Tomás area)

She said the alleged thieves were likely interested in the mens' truck, a white Chevrolet Colorado pickup, and more specifically in the tyres.

'When they tried to get the vehicle, the victims opposed the robbery, the robbers were armed with a firearm and apparently shot the victims,' Ms Andrade Ramírez said

Ms García Cota, 23, allegedly had one of the missing men's mobile phones.

Police were able to make the arrests when a phone belonging to one of the Australian brothers phones was turned on and pinged a mobile tower in the area.
