West Ham's £15m deal for Fabricio Bruno collapses

07:38 , George Flood

So what exactly is the latest on the Fabricio Bruno front?

We know that West Ham had agreed a deal earlier this week worth around £15m to make Flamengo’s one-cap Brazil defender, 28, their first signing of the new Julen Lopetegui era in east London.

However, the Daily Mirror report that transfer has now collapsed, with Bruno believed to be unhappy with a four-year contract offer that it is said did not include a big pay-rise on his current deal.

The offer was rejected and it is reported that West Ham aren’t willing at this time to make an improved one, with Bruno - who played against England at Wembley in March - apparently having plenty of interest from elsewhere in the Premier League and Saudi Arabia.

West Ham in talks over Luis Guilherme amid Fabricio Bruno issues

07:21 , George Flood

West Ham are working hard to boost their new Julen Lopetegui era with some exciting early signings.

The Hammers had agreed a £15m deal for Flamengo centre-back Fabricio Bruno, though reports claim that deal is now on the brink of collapse after the Brazil defender reportedly rejected their initial contract proposal.

Corinthians forward Wesley Gassova is also in West Ham’s thinking as they continue to look at the Brazilian market under technical director Tim Steidten having previously signed young Sao Paulo defender Luizao and also failed with a swoop for Gassova’s team-mate Yuri Alberto.

Now according to Fabrizio Romano, West Ham are in talks over a deal for Palmeiras winger Luis Guilherme worth around £30m plus a sell-on clause.

Guilherme would become the latest young Palmeiras star set to move on this summer, with Endrick heading to Real Madrid and Chelsea set to sign Estevao Willian.

Manchester United target shock move for Trevoh Chalobah

07:01 , George Flood

Chelsea could also have a decision to make very soon again on Trevoh Chalobah’s future as Manchester United reportedly target a surprise summer deal.

Chalobah’s Chelsea career looked to be all but over last summer as a proposed move to Bayern Munich fell through at the 11th hour, with injury then seeing him miss months of Mauricio Pochettino’s one and only season in charge at Stamford Bridge.

However, he proved his quality over the second half of the campaign and became an important figure in the Blues’ backline.

According to The Independent, Manchester United are now weighing up a summer bid for Chalobah as they look to improve their centre-back options for next term.

The report states that the Blues are willing to sell one of either Chalobah or fellow homegrown talent Conor Gallagher, who is now attracting interest from Aston Villa after long-term links with Tottenham and Newcastle.

Victor Osimhen to Chelsea saga takes fresh twist

A major twist now in the long-running Victor Osimhen to Chelsea transfer saga.

The Nigerian international is long known to have been a top target for the Blues, who, like Arsenal, will also look to sign a new striker this summer as they re-tool their squad for new manager Enzo Maresca, whose appointment is set to be confirmed imminently.

There had been strong reports over recent days that Chelsea were in talks with Napoli, soon to appoint ex-Blues and Tottenham boss Antonio Conte, over a potential part-exchange deal for Osimhen that would involve Romelu Lukaku moving to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano now claims that is not the case, with Chelsea actually not planning to move for Osimhen at all as things stand.

He adds that Chelsea expect Lukaku’s £38m release clause to be paid in full should he finally leave on a permanent basis this summer.

Thursday 30 May 2024 16:47 , Matt Verri

The Argentine international was one of Postecoglou’s key players during a promising but inconsistent maiden campaign in charge of the club.

The 28-year-old sat out of the post-season friendly against Newcastle in Melbourne for “personal reasons” but will be a key player for Argentina at this summer’s Copa America, which begins in the United States on June 20.

Romero still has three years to run on his contract in north London and told DSports’ Cómo Te Va: “The truth is that I’m fine. Any Arsenal bid for Benjamin Sesko appears to be on the backburner at the moment.

The Mail report that the Gunners are simply asking to be kept up to date on any movements for the RB Leipzig striker.

However, the clock is ticking as his £55m release clause expires at the end of June.

A number of other clubs are also keeping tabs on Sesko, who will go to the Euros with Slovenia this summer.

Leipzig also want to tie him down to a new contract, drastically increasing his asking price.

Kylian Mbappe speaks out on future as Arsenal hopes die

There are still lingering hopes among some Arsenal fans that Kylian Mbappe will sign for the club when he leaves Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Real Madrid are said to be preparing to announce his arrival as a free agent after the Champions League final.

The French striker has been speaking to CNN about his upcoming move, without naming his destination.

“I will leave my country for the first time,” he said.

“It’s going to be an amazing experience and I can’t wait to be in my new club. I want to win trophies … When you speak about football, [it’s about] winning trophies, being with new teammates.

“Now, I have my contract with PSG … Everybody knows that it’s soon finishing and we’re going to see what happens.”

On whether he regrets signing a new contract with PSG two years ago, he added: “It was more than just staying at PSG.

“It was the World Cup in Qatar. It was many things around these things. It was a big decision, difficult decision … but I don’t regret anything.

“Of course, in a career, you have to take difficult decisions and it’s what I did, but I became the all-time top scorer with PSG. I just want to remember the best things … It was not an easy situation and I wish nobody to live that.”

Arsenal eye Joshua Zirkzee breakthrough

Thursday 30 May 2024 06:22 , Marc Mayo

A new striker is top of Arsenal’s agenda this summer and a deal for Joshua Zirkzee is certainly on the cards.

Although the Dutchman has a relatively cheap £34m release clause in his Bologna contract, Corriere dello Sport say his agent will demand a hefty £13m fee to cut the deal.

The report says that Arsenal are comfortable with that figure as transfer chief Edu has a good working relationship with the agent in question, Kia Joorabchian.

AC Milan are said to have balked at that fee despite their desire to replace Olivier Giroud with Zirkzee.

Calciomercato claim that Juventus are quickly joining the running too, having hired the striker’s former coach at Bologna, Thiago Motta.

Will Maresca commitment work?

Wednesday 29 May 2024 14:28 , Matt Verri

The last Chelsea manager to survive five years at Stamford Bridge was Dave Sexton. When he was appointed in 1967, none of co-owners Todd Boehly, Behdad Eghbali or Jose Feliciano had been born.

But Chelsea’s ownership triumvirate of bona fide business magnates were not born yesterday and have total conviction in their plan to install a head coach who will flourish and grow with the Blues in the long term.

Enzo Maresca is expected to be handed a five-year contract as Chelsea were finalising his appointment as their new head coach.

This will be the second time in two years of ownership that Chelsea’s new chiefs have appointed a man they believe can break the mould of short-termism in modern football.

The reservations beyond Stamford Bridge, however, point to the fact that Graham Potter, their first choice for an ownership-defining boss, lasted less than seven months of his own five-year contract.

Standard Sport understands the centre-back features on a shortlist for both Premier League giants ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
