A man who died after a “violent incident” broke out at a pub over the weekend has been named by police.

Carl James died in hospital after an incident at the Jack and Jill pub on Crossfell Road in Middlesbrough on Saturday (May 11) evening.

The 42-year-old, from Middlesbrough, was said to be in a critical condition in hospital on Saturday but sadly later passed away.

His family have now released a picture of him.

Officers described a large “violent incident” which broke out at the pub shortly after 6pm with the area cordoned off into the night.

Twenty-five-year-old Curtis Tudor of Welburn Grove in Ormesby was previously charged with GBH in connection with the incident.

He appeared before Teesside Magistrates Court on Monday and was remanded in custody to appear before the Crown Court on June 11.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “We can now name the man who sadly died following an incident at the Jack and Jill pub on Crossfell Road, Middlesbrough, as 42-year-old Carl James from Middlesbrough.

“Officers were called to the scene shortly before 6pm on Saturday 11th May and Carl was taken to hospital where he later passed away.

“Carl’s family have asked that their privacy is respected during this extremely difficult time and our thoughts remain with his family and friends.”
