WM Awards $20,000 in College Scholarships to Four Hialeah Gardens High School Seniors

Four $5,000 College Scholarships Awarded 
WM was pleased to award $5,000 college scholarships to four deserving students at Hialeah Gardens High School. Attending the ceremony were: City of Hialeah Gardens Chief of Staff Arturo Ruiz; North Region Administrative Director Leonard Torres; School Board Member Robert Alonso; WM Government Affairs Manager Jason Neal; scholarship winners Jorge Rodriguez, Daniel Restrebada, Dylan Pravia and Diana Perez Mesa; WM Communications Director Dawn McCormick; City of Hialeah Gardens Mayor Yioset De La Cruz; North Region Superintendent Dr. Yesenia Aponte; and Hialeah Gardens High School Principal Maritza Jimenez.

WM awarded $20,000 in college scholarships to four Hialeah Gardens High School seniors at a special event at the school on Tuesday, May 7.

Students receiving the $5,000 college scholarships are Diana Perez Mesa, Dylan Pravia, Daniel Restrebada and Jorge Rodriguez.

The scholarship receipeints were chosen based on their academic performance and grade point average; community service; and a personal essay on Sustainability.

“WM is extremely pleased to be partnering with the City of Hialeah Gardens and Hialeah Gardens High School to honor these four deserving students with college scholarships,” said WM Communications Director Dawn McCormick.  “This is a significant opportunity to assist our deserving local students in purusing academic study and potential careers in environmental sciences and sustainability studies.”

Attending the scholarship presentation were Hialeah Gardens Mayor Yioset De La Cruz, Miami-Dade County School Board Member Robert Alonso and officials from Miami-Dade County Public Schools and high school leadership and students.

“These four outstanding students represent the best of our city and their school as hard working individuals dedicated to academic excellence, giving back to our community and pursuing rigorous study at their respective colleges,” said Mayor De La Cruz.  “We congratulate them and wish them all the best as they work towards their goals and dreams.”
