Q&A
If it makes you feel any better, my guy Zack is equally confused.
Pretty sure it’s confusing tf out of sephiroth too
“I’m just making it up as I go Cloud”
"Do I really look like a guy with a plan?"
“What the hell is going on?!?”
That line was so well placed lol
Want the right answer or the wrong answer?
it'll cost you 2000 gil
LMAO
Shit, been confused his entire life. Bro can’t catch a break
I think its confusing everyone
Came here for this comment
Glad I'm not the only one lol
All the answers will come in part 3. Gotta build up that plottwist.
I’m sure it’ll be as clean as they did with Kingdom Hearts

It was good to find out Tetsuya Nomura was not responsible for the radical changes and actually want to make these remakes as close to the original as possible. But damn man, this feels even more complicated than Kingdom Hearts. At least in those games you could be lost but still have a basic grasp of wtf is going on
I think remakes issues is its vague but simple but because it’s vague people are over complicating it lol
Well, in several interviews over the years since Remake, most of the dev team and even Kitase himself has mentioned that the one lobbying for the biggest changes has been Yoshinori Kitase (Producer of Remake and Director of the OG).
By all accounts, Hamaguchi and Nomura have tried to wrangle things closer to the OG
Ouch, I felt that burn deep in my former-KH-loving soul.
lol. I loved the first game, and I got to the end boss of the second game and just hated it so much that I couldn't finish it. I tried reading up on some of the other games including their crazy naming conventions, and it just became so convoluted. I don't know what they were thinking with that series because it could have been so good.
I was so hyped for KH3 but so confused trying to play it. I didn't play the spin offs so I don't have a fucking clue wtf is happening in that game. Never could finish it.
To be fair kingdom hearts makes near perfect sense it just took two decades to get all the pieces and we got them all in the wrong order but now that the story is complete it's really not that bad
Kingdom hearts 3 writing and plot are bad man. I hope they don't make the same mistake with final fantasy 7 part 3
Plz don't remind me that game even exists
"what the hell is goin on!! " -Zack Fair, FF7Rebirth
Preach brother! Preach!
I have two theories, one that Aerith saved Zack and Biggs to create a new world with an intact white materia or that she simply saved him with the intent to also save herself and the main timeline world.
Or on the flipside, Zack had some kind of premonition like 6th sense of things, and he made the current time line possible
Pretty sure Zack is too much of a himbo for that. He’s just going off what Marlene tells him because she knows Aerith’s fate. Maybe Marlene is on some level of Cetra ancestry. Wouldn’t be surprised if Myrna was too.
But that doesn’t make any sense because is that the time line who aerith had the white materia and gave it to the ‘main timeline’ cloud?
Edit: well apparently there 6 divergent timelines when I was thinking there were 3, temporal mechanics was never my strong suit 🥵
There’s multiple timelines I know that. Other than that I’m lost …. The ending clears up a little but not really don’t want to do spoilers cause don’t know how far everyone is but cloud is somehow the same in all the timelines that’s why his memory keeps cracking
Edit to add I haven’t played all of the original yet I’m to the end of part 1 in the original
It’s convoluted and under explained
Just like Kingdom Hearts
Same director
Can you explain this, kingdom hearts isn't even a complicated story or at least the main line titles that iv played aren't 🤔
Go play all the other games you skipped, as it gets stupidly convoluted just like these Remakes.
I mean I'm fairness then, any story would be isn't there like 10+ random side titles? 🤔
But also fair enough il take your word for it I ain't gonna go play a bunch of really old games just to see
They… you… what?
Either you’re thinking of a different Kingdom Hearts or your brain functions like that M.C. Escher drawing.
I mean I'm only talking 1,2,3 mind you- to clarify the like Disney kingdom hearts that revolves around people loosing their sanity and succumbing to inner dark thoughts/that little voice in the back of your head - thats the only one I know anyway if this isn't the case then fair obviously disregard this then lol
I didn't bother playing spin-offs as well they are spin offs
The plot for the mainline is incredibly simple it's literally for children - bar the overarching themes between games that only adults would pick up on, like when I first played one I was actually a child and didn't comprehend a lot of the big picture plot but playing the remaster as an adult I picked up on all the small details and the sad truths.
I couldn't point to what exactly as its been many years but I wasn't confused at any point- if you include spin off entires then yeah I can imagine the story of 13 games got a bit convoluted lol
Like any IP running that long would for get lost in the mud a few times xD - they probably forgot what they even said 8 games ago

Kingdom hearts is the farthest thing from straightforward lmfao.
It's pretty simple to understand though the issue was being drip fed lore in the wrong order for 2 decades
Kingdom Hearts 1 was fine, I was confused for every other Kingdom Hearts I played
Kingdom Hearts is a huge fucking mess if you only play the mainline titles and not all the spinoff games which are really required to have any idea wtf is going on.
Most folks who've played KH either never got all the handhelds to play all the sidegames or didn't pick up the 1.5, 2.5, and 2.8 remasters to have all the story.
2 already had issues if you didn't play Chain of Memories even though the most important parts were covered. 3 though.... 3 is a fucking mess if you didn't play the sidegames. And that I have to play through the rythm game if I want the laat connecting bita to 4 also sucks.
Think this is a huge detrimental factor to this game's success.
It's a part 2 with a sequel in the works. Be patient
I’ve played several Kingdom Hearts games, so I don’t have a lot of hope for this aspect of the story
Be patient isn’t a good answer when the next game is probably 5 years away. Sequels to movies don’t take that long and asking people to remember shit that broken apart is on the developers not gamers.
Square is anticipating a 2027 release for Part 3, only 3 years, which is relatively short in terms of AAA game development, but it's also been in dev for a year already. Also, you don't need to remember everything between now and then, it's a video game, you can just replay it before the next one comes out to remind yourself of the story.
Just replay it again? It’s a 40-60hr game. You sound very out of touch.
Still not as bad as FFXV
FFXV wasn’t convoluted because the story was unfinished and shallow. Still enjoyed it, but it was clearly undercooked when there was meant to be a lot more there. Meanwhile 7 Re-trilogy is setting up to be so overcooked it’s going to melt my PS5. (Again, still love it)
It was very frustrating
I don’t remember FFXV having a confusing story just a bad one that felt like it was missing character interactions (Lunafreya)
It’s confusing because half of it takes place offscreen
That’s fair
Genuinely curious: what necessary information happens offscreen? Everything was supplementary. Even things like Gladio's mission; not actually necessary to see it onscreen.
Meh, 15 would have been a decent story if any effort was put into the ending. That whole ‘let’s jump a few year in the future for the last fight’ bollocks was a cop out.
Everything in the game was a copout
Worst part of the game imo. I groaned everytime it switched to Zack. Boring.
I’m also confused
Man I hate saying this and there’s still hope in part 3, but I think the confusion and frankly poor writing of the Zack stuff so far just feels like we’re seeing consequences of having that fan service at the end of remake and they didn’t really know where to go with his story. (I hope I’m wrong and part 3 makes it all worth it but who knows)
I don’t think it’s fan service. I think it’s just Nomura syndrome
Him being in the game was a massive waste unless they redeem him in part 3
Imo I don’t get having him involved at all unless he’s alive in part 3. Also why have this whole changing destiny theme if Aerith dies too? I still love the story but I do hope they make it worth it in part 3. If Zack as well as Aerith are alive in part 3 then It’s worth it.
I mean... rewatch the scene she dies in. Both sides are changing destiny through force, 3 is going to take place with Cloud shifted out of his reality which is why he can see the cracka in the sky but the others can't. He saved he but Sephiroth pulled him through to a place he didn't.
It's got a lot to work on to give an on-screen explanation for full clarity for folks, but that's how this is reading and what happened with Zack and Biggs.
No dude, Cloud can see a version of her as his deluded and think shes alive. It's all going to come crashing down in part 3 when he finds out the truth.
If that was all then they wouldn't have made sure to show us the sky for him is the same as when they were in the alternate reality where Zack has been all game but it's not that way for everyone else.
It's still going to come crashing down but it's not going to fall apart the same way as in OG.
He’s early still alive somewhere at the end of Rebirth. There’s no way they keep him around with all the reality hopping without having him play a decent role in Part 3. My personal theory is that he’s going to be our pseudo Cloud while he’s out of commission after the North Crater.
I'm sure he'll die or get killed off a few more times in the next game only to magically reappear.
I got one word for you: Nomura.
He's dead. In rebirth he's a dream
The old FFX twist I see
Holy shit that's actually kind of what it is and now I hate it
And sephiroth is an ascian from FFXIV.
Just take it for what it is and don't think about it too much. It's basically Nomuras fanboy side project.
There was just so much confusion with this game storyline in my opinion The multiple dimensions it just threw me off
It’s too bad because the stuff that didn’t involve the whispers / universe shifting stuff at the end was pretty well executed.
