Marvel and Disney are not happy about footage getting leaked from the upcoming film Captain America: Brave New World. They've turned to the courts to unmask the scooper responsible for releasing the footage, hoping to learn the identity of the leaker.

Per Torrent Freak, documents have emerged revealing that Marvel's VP of Global Security & Content Protection has subpoenaed Instagram to uncover the identity of whoever runs the account for "CanWeGetSomeToast," a scooper well known for posting leaks and spoilers on social media for major motion films. Recently, the account for CanWeGetSomeToast on Instagram shared on Instagram Stories a look at the unreleased movie. This led to the DMCA subpoena with the goal of naming the person or people connected to the account, contesting that a "leaked, pre-release image" was posted that "has not been approved for distribution to the public."

The subpoena is specifically looking to identify the "individuals' names, physical addresses, IP addresses, telephone numbers, e-mail addresses, and payment account information" for whoever's behind the CanWeGetSomeToast account. The subpoena was filed in late April, but a court clerk has not yet signed off. It's not clear how Marvel intends to proceed if the company is successful in identifying the leaker (or leakers).

Marvel Doesn't Take Leaks Lightly

This is not the first time Marvel has gone after leakers. In 2023, a script for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was leaked on Reddit, and this was rectified after a copyright infringement notice was submitted to Google, with the script immediately taken down. A more "innocent" leak also happened recently with Captain America: Brave New World and its tie-in McDonald's toys. The Happy Meal toys, which are now available at McDonald's restaurants, include a toy for Red Hulk, all but confirming that Harrison Ford's Thunderbolt Ross will transform into that character in the film. This toys getting released so much sooner than the film is likely due to the delays given to Brave New World.

Julius Onah is the director of Captain America: Brave New World, which is written by Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson, Matthew Orton, and Onah. It stars Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, and Liv Tyler. It will serve as the first Captain America film with Mackie's Sam Wilson serving as the new Captain America after Chris Evans' Steve Rogers passed on the shield.

Captain America: Brave New World will be released in theaters on Feb. 14, 2025.
