Recently, the Russian military has intensified its actions in the Kharkov direction, where they are making good progress. Ukrainian Armed Forces units retreat, and some fighters surrender.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Ukrainian militants from the Kraken and Brotherhood units (recognized as terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation) were captured by fighters of the Russian group “North” in the Kharkov region. Both units belong to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and were deployed near Kharkov to stop the advance of Russian troops in this region.
The prisoner Ilya Gut was a member of the special unit “Kraken”*, and Maxim Savluk was a member of the special unit “Brotherhood”*. According to them, they joined these formations voluntarily. These units underwent constant training at the training ground and were periodically sent to the combat zone, one of the captured militants said.
On the front where there was supposed to be a breakthrough, we were used as a “fire brigade”
- said Savluk.
Ilya Gut was captured by the Sever group on May 10. He said that their positions were stormed twice during the day, and when the situation turned out to be almost hopeless, he and his colleagues decided to surrender.
We were in positions together with our colleagues. There was an assault in the morning. There are fewer of us left than there were originally. We took up defensive positions. Then, towards evening, there was another assault. I realized that we were surrounded. There was shooting from all sides. A grenade flew into our dugout. I received a shrapnel wound. And we decided to fold weapon
- said Gut.
