One of the most intriguing aspects of Another Crab’s Treasure is the bosses in the game. While most bosses are crab-themed, it's also possible to encounter bosses resembling different sea creatures. Each boss has unique patterns, and you should view it as a dance, adapting to their movements to defeat them. Timing actions such as dodge, block, and parry will be beneficial.

Additionally, besides the main story bosses, there are numerous optional bosses in the game. One of these is the Grovekeeper Topoda, a mantis shrimp. Mantis shrimps are capable of delivering powerful punches underwater in real life. Are you ready to challenge it in the game?

Where To Find Grovekeeper Topoda

To find optional boss Grovekeeper Topoda, you first need to defeat Heikea, the Intimidation Crab. After defeating it, there will be a Moon Snail Shell on the boat where you fought it, which is the Village Gates.

It's easier to find the Gravekeeper Topoda in the village area behind the Village Gates. Therefore, the first thing you need to do is unlock the shortcut on the boat.

If You Haven't Unlocked The Shortcut To The Village:

Begin from the boat where you fought Heikea. Descend from the blue fishnet located south of the boat. Enter the cave and proceed straight ahead. Climb onto the netted balloon, jump to the left, and continue from there. You'll see a few more netted balloons ahead; cross over them to reach the opposite side.

Once across, turn west from the butter churn and jump over the blue-netted balloon to reach the red balloon. Then reach the wall with sea urchins to the left.

Use the fishing rod and unlock the shortcut. Then head north, cross over the walled fishnet area, and proceed until you find a Moon Snail Shell. This area belongs to the Curdled Village fast travel point.

The village is a highly dangerous place, so don't move without clearing out the enemies there.

Jump down from the northwest of the Moon Snail Shell. Go completely west to reach the green cardboard milk box where the sniper is located. Go further west and unlock the shortcut leading to the boat where you fought Heikea.

How To Find Topoda

Unlock the shortcut and return to the village from the boat's door, but turn north before reaching the green milk carton where the sniper is located. After dealing with the hammer lobster, reach the end of the ramp. Jump to the pillar-shaped rock. From there, jump to the area to your north. After a short distance, use the hooks to reach the high area.

Head northeast. You'll see another hook, use it to jump to the blue balloon. From the blue balloon, jump to the green one. Continue north. After that, reach the netted area below the cliff. Climb up the wall using the fishnet to reach the upper area. Proceed west, pass through the wheel. When the path forks, continue following the southwest path.

When you reach the mossy area at the end of the trail, you'll encounter Topoda; a tough battle awaits you.

Pre-Fight Preparations

Minimum Recommended Stats

You won't need much of the Resistance stat in this battle. This is because Grovekeeper Topoda has attacks that have a high probability of breaking your shell. Avoiding its shell-breaking and blue-icon attacks can be a bit more challenging compared to other bosses and may require a lot of practice.

Investing in Vitality rather than Resistance will be beneficial for you.

Additionally, you won't need the MSG stat much either. As you know, Shell abilities and adaptations are related to your MSG stat. Regardless of which shell abilities you bring, Grovekeeper Topoda's attacks have a high chance of breaking your shell. Since your shell will be broken, you'll have to use other shells in the area.

Almost all the shells in the battle area with Topoda are Crab Husk shells. Crab Husk's ability is Decoy. Since this ability doesn't damage the opponent, and decoys are easily broken, it's better to focus on the ATK stat instead.

Recommended Shells

Actually, the shells in the area where you fight Topoda will serve you well. And regardless of what you bring, the probability of that shell breaking is very high. Bringing a shell with high ATK bonus can be useful.

Also shells like Coconut or Tennis Ball can be very helpful. The Rollout ability is good both offensively and defensively, allowing you to evade Topoda's dangerous attacks.

Lastly, Matryoshka (L) will increase your limited shell count on the field thanks to its Decoy ability and the fact that it contains two Matryoshka (M) and then Matryoshka (S) inside. Also, Skull will be quite advantageous as it gives you another chance after being defeated.

Recommended Stowaways

As Stowaways, it will be beneficial to choose those that strengthen your ATK stat. Additionally, if you prefer, you can also equip Stowaways focused on the VIT stat. Equipping Another Crab may be useful as it will revive you after a lethal hit.

Skills

Defensive skills are generally indispensable. By learning the Parry and Riposte skills, you can both defend and deal damage to Topoda. Aggravation will increase your next damage when you take damage to your shell while blocking.

Moreover, Self-Repair will be useful as there are a limited number of shells in the area and they can quickly disappear, ensuring the longevity of your shells.

Elusive Prey will provide you with a few seconds of invincibility after your shield is destroyed. Considering Topoda's speed, this skill will save your life and give you time to quickly acquire a new shell.

How To Beat Grovekeeper Topoda

First, you need to learn your enemy's attacks. Here are the potential attacks it will use against you:

Unfortunately, in this battle, you cannot afford to play too defensively as time is working against you. If you play too defensively, Topoda's Shellbreaker Punch attacks can destroy your shells and deplete the limited number of shells in the area, leaving you shell-less.

You should play as aggressively as possible. However, playing aggressively does not mean abandoning caution. Try to stay as close to Topoda as possible and block its attacks, striking it whenever you find openings.

Topoda always needs to approach you to deal damage. Use this to your advantage. Additionally, Topoda does not have an Aggro Attack.

If Topoda uses Double Punch on you, try to parry before its second punch. You will have some time to hit him after this attack ends.

The Fast Sweep and Tail Sweep attacks are quite fast. Therefore, you may need some time to get used to Topoda's patterns to dodge them. Nevertheless, you will have some opportunities to hit him after these attacks.

Do not attempt to parry during the Blistering Punches attack. Instead, block this attack with your shell and wait for it to end. As Topoda uses this attack, it will increase the Balance Meter, making it easier for you to Capsize it. Do not miss this opportunity.

Topoda will frequently move away from you. Do not allow it to move too far away, and stay close to it. If your health is low, use a Heartkelp Pod while it moves away.

Shellbreaker Punch is Topoda's most frequently used attack. Avoiding it is somewhat difficult. Determine the direction Topoda is coming from and quickly dodge or run in the opposite direction. You can also dodge to the right or left because it will come straight towards you, but you need to be very fast.

If your shell is about to break and you are wearing one of the Crab Husks in the area, be sure to use its Decoy ability. At the same time, quickly identify a new shell spot and equip it.

When Topoda's health drops to 50 percent or below, it will use the Speed Storm attack. The effect of this attack is not long-lasting, but while it is active, Topoda becomes invisible and continuously uses Shellbreaker Punch. Again, try to avoid it as much as possible, but if you are sure you cannot avoid it, using the Decoy abilities of the Crab Husks is more logical.

While Speed Storm is active, you should only focus on avoiding. If you block too much, many shells may break, and there may be no shells left on the field.

When Topoda's HP is very low, and there are no shells left on the field, use the Decoy ability of the Crab Husk and finish him off while it is distracted.

Grovekeeper Topoda Rewards

Grovekeeper Topoda is a significant boss compared to other optional bosses. The main reason for this is that it teaches you the Mantis Punch adaptation, which allows you to destroy Umami Cubes scattered throughout the game and access hidden areas.

After learning the Mantis Punch from Topoda, you can speak with him again to upgrade your acquired adaptations with Umami Crystals. This feature alone makes defeating Topoda important.

Additionally, in the area where Topoda is found, you will also find an item called Carclaw. This is a Junk item, and selling it will earn you 20,000 Microplastics.
