Sarah Paulson reveals 'secret' to her happy relationship with Holland Taylor

Sarah Paulson has revealed the "secret" to her happy relationship with partner and fellow actor Holland Taylor.

Speaking as a guest on Monday's episode of the Smartless podcast, the American Horror Story star opened up about her relationship revealing that the pair live in separate houses.

"We don't live together, that's the sort of secret," she told hosts during the interview.

"Holland and I, we spend plenty of time together but we don't live in the same house," she continued.

The pair, who have been together for nearly nine years, credit the success of their relationship to their unique living situation.

"We've been together for a long time now and I think part of it has to do with, we're together when we wanna be and we're not when we don't.

The pair both value their independence and the decision to live in separate homes was made in an effort to prioritise it.

When asked if they had considered simply living in separate bedrooms as opposed to separate houses entirely, Paulson revealed that it would not work as they "like to fall asleep holding hands".

"I don't want to be around her the rest of the time," she quipped before swiftly saying she was "kidding".

The arrangement appears to be working well for the pair, who have a long history.

The pair first met during a dinner party in 2005. Of their meeting, Paulson said that she found Taylor to be "intimidating".

"I thought that is really a very beautiful person and I found her to be intimidating. She's really smart and has a kind of formidable presence and is incredibly talented," she said.

After that first meeting, the pair had little to do with each other until almost a decade later when they reconnected over social media. 

In December 2015, the pair confirmed their romance to the public and swiftly became a Hollywood power couple- known for representing the LGBTQIA+ community and proudly sharing a 32 year age-gap.

Of her relationship with Paulson, Holland has said it is "the most wonderful thing in [her] life".

Speaking on Radio Andy Taylor said: "I must say it has to be part of what has to be the most wonderful thing in my life, is the whole embrace of this wonderful relationship which makes everything else make sense."
