Netflix’s new investigative show, The Asunta Case, has psyched audiences with a shocking true crime story about the murder of a young girl.
Created by Ramón Campos, Gema R. Neira, David Orea and Jon de la Cuesta the plot of the series follows the aftermath of the famous 2013 disappearance case of 12-year-old Asunta Yong Fang Basterra Portoin in Santiago, Spain.
Asunta was reported missing by her parents in September 2013, but her body was found just hours later next to a road outside Santiago de Compostela. As the investigation progressed, the focus shifted to the girl’s affluent parents – Rosario Porto and Alfonso Basterra – who had adopted her from China, unravelling tales of disgust and dread.
Season 1 released on 26 April 2024 has kept the audiences hooked and already wondering if the thrilling Netflix show will be renewed for a second season.

‘The Asunta Case’ season 2: Is it happening?
Netflix developed and officially released the crime thriller as a limited series, which means the story was meant to be concluded in the six episodes of the debut season.
While Netflix has turned shows initially dubbed as limited series into multi-seasonal projects earlier, The Asunta Case wraps up the story it sets to tell by the end of the final episode. The jury finds the parents Rosario Porto and Alfonso Basterra guilty of murdering their adoptive daughter and subsequently sentences them to 18 years of imprisonment.
So, unless the creators decide to come up with a spin-off, the possibility of a sophomore season for The Asunta Case seems less likely.
