Everything we know about Good Vibes Festival 2024

Here’s what we know about Malaysia’s upcoming GVF 2024.

The Klang Valley’s most notable celebration of music and youth culture is back once more, and it’s looking to be bigger than ever. Happening in the crisp, cool resort haven of Genting Highlands, here’s everything you should expect from the Good Vibes Festival (GVF) 2024 lineup.

Since its debut in 2013 under the stewardship of local event agency Future Sound Asia, the Good Vibes Festival, often abbreviated as GVF, has been regarded as one of the penultimate entertainment events in Malaysia. Meant to serve as both a platform to bolster the profile of emergent domestic acts, the festival has also provided local fans with an opportunity to witness some of the world’s most eminent names from international music perform up close on local shores.

Among some of these heavy hitters who have graced the weekend itinerary over the years include alternative rock legends The Smashing Pumpkins, English singers Ellie Goulding and Dua Lipa, as well as South Korean rapper CL, to name just a few.

GVF 2024 lineup: Who to expect, from Peggy Gou to Joji

Naturally, it comes as little surprise that passes for the Good Vibes Festival continue to be a hot ticket commodity (quite literally) so many years on. This year will likely be no different, with the event returning to the misty heights of the Pahang hills once more to occupy both Resorts World Awana and the nearby Genting Highlands Premium Outlet bus parking lot from 20th to 21st July.

Most notably, 2024’s iteration is of critical significance for the GVF as a whole as it will represent a chapter of redemption from last year’s highly contentious set, which saw The 1975 frontman Matty Healy going on an unplanned tirade against the Malaysian government that led to the festival’s abrupt cancellation. “This time around, our aim is clear: to rebuild and let everyone know that Good Vibes Festival is here to stay. Many of the artists that didn’t get to perform last year will get another chance on the stage this year.” expressed Wan Alman, Director of Entertainment at Future Sound Asia.

Similarly, no expense has been spared in ensuring that 2024’s lineup remains as varied as the iterations that came before it. Headlining this year’s festival on the first day is none other than Japanese singer-songwriter Joji (Slow Dancing In The Dark), with the 30-year-old hitmaker marking his second performance on local shores after initially cancelling the Malaysian leg of his Pandemonoim tour late last year. He will be joined by American rapper Russ (What They Want), who most recently dropped his latest studio album, Santiago, last year.

The second evening’s headliner lineup kicks off with South Korean DJ virtuoso Peggy Gou ((It Goes Like) Nanana), one of the most talked-about musical acts in the past five years who rose to prominence after several of her tracks skyrocketed into mainstream popularity on TikTok. She will be accompanied by none other than the Prince of Reggaeton himself, globally best-selling Colombian singer J Balvin (LA CANCIÓN, Mi Gente). Both artists will be making their Malaysian debut on the GVF 2024 stage.

Other notable international acts who are part of this year’s GVF 2024 lineup include English singer-songwriter Henry Moodie (drunk text), who had just made his inaugural local appearance hosting a free concert at The Exchange TRX a few days prior, Arizona-born alt-pop singer Alec Benjamin (Let Me Down Slowly), Canadian indie pop quartet Peach Pit (Shampoo Bottles), as well as recently reunited English indie-rock outfit Haven (Say Something).

Additionally, expect appearances from Ylona Garcia (Entertain Me), the Filipino-Australian breakout act from 88rising, South Korean rapper and actress BIBI (Bam Yang Gang), as well as Korean-American rapper Tiger JK (TOPLINE with Stray Kids) who is joined by his wife, American-born rapper Yoon Mi-rae (Touch Love).

On the local front, you’ll be treated to a wide assortment of talents. Fans of hip-hop should look forward to the likes of GARD WUZGUT, BAD M.O.B, and FORCEPARKBOIS, representing some of the Malaysian scene’s most promising acts in the genre.

Taking the DJ decks across two evenings are AFARO, Aidaho, Jovynn, and, Ashley Lau for CHERRYBOMB, EMO NIGHT led by DJ Aida, I-SKY, Ashley Lau, Alfie Rrari, MR YANG, NAUFAL, Dub Tings, and SaturdaySelects led by Axel Groove, IRAMA, and Roshan.

For lush pop and R&B vibes, let Mardiana, JAIE, TY:DEL, Spooky Wet Dreams, FAUD, and Talitha. whisk you away late into a highland sunset, before Capt’n Trips and The Kid as well as The Filters bring a cacophony of homegrown band energy to the stage.
