Im not quite understanding, are they going to find a new home and office for her, or will she live and work in one of the many palaces/building they already have? Is there some set place where it is usual that the heir lives in the Netherlands?

That's what's missing here, is she establishing a separate residence and hiring a certain number of staff? - which, aside from marriage is the only reason I can think of that Ms. Amelia still-a-student requires her funds?

Princess Amalia will still use an allowance of 1.5 million euros per year

Princess Amalia still wants to claim her allowance and will stop returning most of that benefit. She needs money for "foreseeable costs associated with an independent and autonomous performance of her position", as outgoing Prime Minister Rutte has just announced in a letter to the House of Representatives. That letter includes a letter from Amalia with an explanation.

This includes "a secretariat and reservations for living and working accommodation". The eldest daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Mxima is seriously threatened, it was announced in 2022.

In picture
The allowance will not be used for her security, Rutte emphasized in an interview. Her studies are progressing and you see her coming into the picture more, said Rutte. "She's more visible." He points out, among other things, Amalia's recent presence at the incoming state visit of the Spanish royal family.

She will receive 1.5 million euros per year as of January 1. She continues to pay back the other part of her allowance, 300,000 euros. In the letter, the princess writes that she must take additional expenses into account "after surprising circumstances".

Expenditure
In 2021, in the run-up to her 18th birthday, the princess announced that she would waive her allowance of around 1.8 million euros per year. Of this, 300,000 euros was income and 1.5 million euros was for personnel and material expenses. She was the first member of the Royal House to waive a legally valid allowance.

The princess (20) felt that she did not need her money from the state, "as long as she does not incur high costs in her position as Princess of Orange". Since she turned 18, she has been paying back her allowance.

At home
In October 2022 it became clear that Amalia was facing serious threats. As a result, she was forced to live at home and could not go out on the street.

Princess Amalia lived and studied in Madrid for more than a year because of her security situation. She now lives in Amsterdam. Amalia also indicated in previous conversations that she was having a very difficult time due to the situation and missed normal life. She had more freedom of movement in the Spanish capital.

In the Article also a clip with the former Dutch PM Mark Rutte about the request (Since the formation of the new cabinet is still ongoing after the last elections, Rutte will remain 'in service' until then)

Loose translation of the above displayed letter:

Amsterdam, May 7, 2024

Your Excellency, dear Mr Rutte,

On June 11, 2021, I wrote to you that I would refund the income part of the benefit constitutionally granted to me during my studies. I also wrote to you that I would refund the B component (the expense allowance) as long as I did not have to incur high costs in my position as Princess of Orange.

As time passes and after surprising circumstances, it is now unforeseeable that I have to take into account personnel and material expenses with a view to an independent and independent fulfillment of my position, including a secretariat and reservations for a living and working accommodation. For this reason, I will no longer refund the constitutional expense allowance (B component) from January 1, 2025. I will of course continue to pay back the income until the end of my studies.

Once again I hope you understand this.

Sincerely,

Amalia

(Her Royal Highness, the Princess of Orange)

Princess Amalia will no longer refund expenses of 1.5 million euros

By our entertainment editors

Update: 3 hours ago

Princess Amalia no longer refunds the constitutional expense allowance she receives. Outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte reports this in a letter. Amalia will continue to renounce her income component until the end of her studies.
Amalia's decision takes effect on January 1, 2025. The 2024 expense reimbursement amounted to 1.5 million euros. This amount has continued to increase in recent years. The Crown Princess now keeps the money "due to foreseeable costs associated with an independent and independent performance of her position".

The income component, which amounted to 322,000 euros this year, will continue to be refunded to the princess. She previously announced that she will continue to do this until she completes her studies.

"I find that uncomfortable as long as I have little to offer in return and other students are having a much more difficult time, especially during this corona time. I will therefore return the income until the end of my studies," Princess Amalia wrote in June 2021.

"In addition, as long as I do not have to incur high costs in my position as Princess of Orange, I will also refund the expense allowance," she wrote at the time. According to the princess, the costs are now high.

PRINCESS AMALIA KEEP EXPENSES REIMBURSEMENT OF EUR 1.5 MILLION BY 2025
ROYAL HOUSE | ROYALTY

07-05-2024
SANNE EVA DIJKSTRA

Princess Amalia wants to receive an expense allowance again as of January 1. From her eighteenth birthday, Amalia was entitled to an income and an expense allowance. In 2021, the princess decided not to keep that amount.
This is now changing, which means that she will receive 1.5 million euros annually by 2025.

COMPENSATION PRINCESS AMALIA
'With the passage of time and after surprising circumstances, it is now foreseeable that I will have to take into account personnel and material expenses with a view to an independent and independent fulfillment of my position, including a secretariat and reservations for living and working accommodation.' Amalia wrote this in a letter to outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte on Tuesday.

In it she explains why she will stop refunding the (annually increasing) expense allowance as of next year. 'I will of course continue to pay back the income until the end of my studies.' That income part amounts to 322,000 euros per year.

THREAT
By the 'surprising circumstances' Amalia means the threat from the criminal circuit that she has to deal with, explains our royalty reporter Sam Hoevenaar. Among other things, this meant that she had to live in Madrid for a year. The threat has an impact on her life. Costs are incurred for this that she now wants to pay from the expense reimbursement.

The expense allowance is the largest part of the royal family's allowance. It is intended for personnel and material expenses. This would involve court staff who would take care of Amalia's agenda and communication for her position as Princess of Orange, but also transport by car and plane. The princess also mentions her secretariat, in other words: people who keep her agenda and prepare official visits that she makes as Princess of Orange. Last month she attended a state visit for the first time, and we expect we will see her more and more often in the coming years.

MARK RUTTE'S RESPONSE
In a response to the princess's letter, Rutte indicated that he had "understanding and appreciation" for Amalia's "personal considerations". He wishes her every success in continuing her studies.

According to the ANP, Rutte indicated in a press statement that the threat surrounding Amalia has "nothing to do" with her decision to claim the expense reimbursement as of 2025. The extra money does not go to the princess's security. According to him, she does show that these developments have had a real impact on Amalia and that she wants to let the Netherlands know.

(NO) ALLOWANCE
Amalia's sisters do not receive an allowance, Hoevenaar says. It is only for kings, queens and heirs to the throne.

Princess Beatrix also receives an allowance of a total of 1.8 million euros as a former monarch. Alexia and Ariane have to look for a job to earn a salary, just like Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien do.

Amalia is very ill advised and doesn't have good role models. No wonder she does what she does. She will end up a copy of her mother and Mary.

Which is very unfortunate, because I think she still has potential.

Thats doubtful as CA will actually become a reigning queen, not the sidekick.

I find the phrasing 'surprising circumstances' a little odd, I must say. Anyway,  in spite of what the prime minister says, I think she is looking at doing a master's degree abroad and will probably spend some of the money on security.

It's also high time for her to actually start getting involved in the part of the 'family business' that does not require expensive gowns and tiaras. Maybe her accepting the money is a sign that this will finally happen.

The money she intends to keep will go towards her staff/security, travel, and other living expenses. These expenses would have been paid by her parents (either from their stipend or their personal wealth).

Only a fraction will be spent on gala dresses. None of it is (haute) couture. Altered yes  bespoke no.
Jewels aplenty in the family, no need to buy new.
And attending state banquets and other official functions are part and parcel of her preparations for her future role.

Whereas her younger sister comes across as a nepo baby, CA actually is very serious, and very aware of the scrutiny she faces. I am pretty sure that she will be well-prepped for her future role, just like her dad and her grandmother were. The optics may be suggesting otherwise (in part because of Max'  exuberance) but the family knows darn well how to survive and thrive.
