Hjulmand reassures Sporting fans: “Of course I want to continue” – SAPO Desporto

Danish midfielder does not hide his happiness with the title win highlights the role of Rúben Amorim, and says he feels happy at Alvaladep>

Morten Hjulmand, the Danish midfielder hired this season by Sporting and one of the key players in the lion’s title win, shows himself extremely happy at Alvalade an interview published by the newspaper Record on Friday. He expresses his desire to continue at the club despite interest from other clubs.

“I can say that this period at Sporting has been amazing. I truly enjoy coming to train every day, I like living in Portugal, and I still have a long-term contract with Sporting. Of course I want to stay at the club!” he emphasizes in the extensive interview.

“There are rumors all the time about different players, coaches, and clubs. It’s normal. It’s not something a player should waste energy on or time. We need to focus our minds elsewhere: here, in our day-to-day, when we have so many games to play,” he adds.

The 23-year-old midfielder, although not hiding that he would like to play in the Premier League one day, emphasizes that he is happy at Sporting. “Perhaps one day it will be the right time to move to the Premier League… But I feel very happy where I am currently and with my life at Sporting.”

He also admits in the same interview to being obsessed with football. “I think I am obsessed with football. Almost every decision I make and how I spend my time is thinking about football, how I can be prepared for training and games. You could say that during the season I am always working, given the amount of time I spend thinking about football. Some people may say I need to relax more and not think so much…” he says.

Hjulmand also talked about Rúben Amorim and the public praise the coach has given him. “He asked me to be the heart of the team that connects with everyone. There were things I had to improve. Mister Amorim makes things very clear for the player: about his vision, about the game itself, about how he sees your character and how he thinks you can improve. He is very good in how he treats the players. I didn’t know him as a coach and person. But when I joined the team, I had an idea of how his work was even with the staff and during training,” he highlights.

“I am very proud that the coach talks about me in relation to Palhinha and Ugarte. I knew them before signing for Sporting and I have seen their games this season. They are two incredible players, so being compared to the two makes me proud. I knew the qualities they had in the coach’s system and I needed to bring something similar,” adds Hjulmand in the extensive interview with Record newspaper, when asked about Amorim considering him more complete than the two former defensive midfielders from Sporting.
