Hello Everyone
On a previous thread about uncle Len's fly tying box was one of the contents, this simple small pen knife. It is John Watts, Sheffield knife. My question is, does anyone know what the other end from the blade does? For pipe smokers possibly. Ant help would be much appreciated.
This is the mystery attachment.
Thank you.... Tony
Any idea what this is for? John Watts pen knife.

I believe it to be blade which is used to stab cows, in cases of colic. My Grand-dad kept a herd of cows and had a pen knife similar. The stop on the blade allowed it to go through the hide of the beast and prevented too deep a penetration. I am talking about knowledge gained some 65 years ago and the old memory may have dimmed.
Seems memory is not too bad - called bloat -

Interesting pocket knife...
It definitely was designed for something.
That blade looks like an oyster knife blade but the handle would be too flimsily, plus the rivet used to open the knife wouldn't give the needed length to separate the oyster from the shell.
Definitely a pocket knife/ tool with a purpose.

The close season is an important and interesting time for the Angler who set out to catch big fish. It is a timely opportunity for him to make new tackle or renovate old. There are no end of jobs to do, apart from those horrible things called Gardens!

Thanks Mr B. I have found a few WW1 & 2 pocket knives on the interweb that have the same attachment but no information about what it's used for.Mr B wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 9:46 pm Interesting pocket knife...
