'The Floor' Renewed For Season 2 & 3 At Fox

EXCLUSIVE: Fox is tripling down on The Floor.

The network has handed the Rob Lowe-hosted and produced game show a second and third season after its first season performed well for the network and was spoofed on Saturday Night Live.

The news comes ahead of Fox’s Upfront, which is being held in New York tomorrow.

The show, which Deadline revealed had landed at Fox last June, premiered on January 2. It ran for ten episodes through to the end of February.

The network said that the premiere episode amassed 4.4M multi-platform viewers after seven days of viewing, per Nielsen data, which is a 73% boost from the 2.5M that tuned in same-day, making it the network’s most-streamed game show ever and the network’s most-watched Tuesday unscripted debut in more than 13 years, since Masterchef premiered in 2010. It continued to perform well over its season.

The Floor is a physical quiz show that sees contestants face off in quiz duels on a giant LED floor divided into a hundred equal squares, each representing its own field of knowledge.

In the upcoming seasons, the floor will increase in size to 100 squares and 100 contestants, up from 81 each in season one.

The first challenger, selected at random, must choose one of his or her neighboring opponents to go head-to-head in an epic quiz duel in the opponent’s category. The winner takes over the loser’s square, gaining valuable ground as they expand their territory, while the loser exits the game. The winner must then choose – do they continue on and attempt to secure another square? Or do they let The Floor choose a new challenger? The last contestant standing who gains full control over The Floor takes home a life-changing $250,000 cash prize.

It is produced by John De Mol’s Talpa Studios, Holey Moley producer Eureka Productions and BiggerStage, a production company based in Ireland, where it is filmed.

De Mol, Mark van Achterberg, Chris Culvenor, Paul Franklin, Wes Dening, Sean O’Riordan and Shane Byrne serve as executive producers. Anthony Carbone serves as showrunner and Rob Lowe is producer.

It is the latest renewal for the network; Hell’s Kitchen is coming back for two more seasons and scripted drama Alert was handed a third season.

Separately, the network has struck a first-look deal with the Parks and Recreation star. Lowe will develop unscripted series to be produced by Fox Alternative Entertainment.
