Jean Piaget University of Cape Verde celebrates 23 years with positive results

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Jean Piaget University of Cape Verde celebrates 23 years of existence. In this significant milestone, the country’s first private university is the stage for celebrations that highlight not only its long journey, but also the countless successes and achievements achieved over the years, even in the face of the challenges faced today.

Speaking to Expresso das Ilhas, the rector of the Jean Piaget University of Cape Verde (UniPiaget), Joanita Rodrigues, not only highlighted the institution’s achievements, but also the challenges overcome and the future directions that the university is taking.

The 23rd anniversary is a moment of reflection, where a retrospective look is taken at the challenging moments that, in the rector’s view, were fundamental to strengthening the university throughout its history.

“This 23rd anniversary is not just a celebration, but an opportunity to reflect on our journey. Each challenge we have faced over the years has not only strengthened our institution, but also reaffirmed our commitment to academic excellence and the advancement of knowledge. We are proud not only of the achievements we achieved, but also of the obstacles we overcame, as each of them taught us valuable lessons and enabled us to tread new paths towards the future», highlighted the dean.

Challenges

After completing 23 years of history, the Jean Piaget University of Cape Verde finds itself facing a crucial moment of reflection. Issues such as financial accessibility, international competition for students and the need to guarantee educational quality in an inclusive environment are among the institution’s challenges.

In financial terms, the dean of UniPiaget highlights that Cape Verdean families are still dealing with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, prolonged droughts and international conflicts, which represents an additional challenge, but argues that the University has been working to support students, maintaining a high standard of educational quality.

“We are working open, understanding, always trying to help our students, always hoping that tomorrow will be different and that our students will also be able to receive, for example, a greater number of scholarships so they can get involved.. We have many brilliant minds here at this university, we see this daily, our students are eager for knowledge and want to take a stand. We are saying this because, when we send our students to mobility programs, we receive very positive feedback. Quality is also a challenge that we must always bear in mind, quality is a construction. So we must always be vigilant.”

Talking about the 23-year journey, Joanita Rodrigues compared it to a graph, highlighting moments of growth, challenges and peaks of success. The rector emphasized the university’s commitment to becoming an inclusive institution, focusing on internationalization and research, citing the university’s pride in seeing its students, professors and researchers actively participating in international programs.

However, even in light of the celebrations, the rector recognized the challenges faced by the university. This official highlighted the growing international competition for students, financial issues and the ongoing commitment to accessibility and inclusion of students, including those with special needs. Currently, the university has more than a thousand students enrolled in bachelor’s and master’s courses.

“Right now, our university is facing a challenging context, but we are not paralyzed. We receive recognition from various institutions every day, which motivates us. We are expanding our postgraduate courses and establishing external partnerships. Furthermore, we are investing in research and the creation of reference laboratories. We are committed to inclusion, environmental issues and global sustainability. These initiatives reflect our optimistic vision for the future, giving us reasons to celebrate the successes of our university”, he emphasized.

To mark its 23rd anniversary, the university is holding a series of activities throughout the month of May, dedicated to science and literature. These include international exhibitions, conferences and symposiums, demonstrating the university’s ongoing commitment to excellent education and research.

The dean of UniPiaget expressed her gratitude to all the University’s employees, teachers and students, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to training qualified professionals committed to the country’s development.

The Jean Piaget University of Cape Verde, created by the Piaget Institute, has the mission of training human resources and developing local skills for the country’s progress.

Recognized as an institution of public interest since 2001, it began its activities with the Sociology course. In 2005, it established a University Center in Mindelo, expanding to other courses, such as Educational Sciences, Economics, Management, Systems Engineering, IT and Architecture, and currently houses more than a thousand students in approved courses, with a diverse team of teachers.
