In a go big or go home moment, Netflix has adapted Gabriel García Márquez’s masterpiece of magical realism One Hundred Years of Solitude into a series. The trailer is beautiful, but I remain skeptical.
I won’t pretend to be familiar with any of the cast’s previous work but One Hundred Years of Solitude stars Claudio Cataño, Jerónimo Barón, Marco González, Leonardo Soto, Susana Morales, Ella Becerra, Moreno Borja, Santiago Vasquez, and Carlos Suárez. It will be available to stream on Netflix later this year.
We Are Lady Parts is back for Season 2 on Peacock! The first season was a big hit around here and we’re all very excited to see it back on the streaming roster.
As the reality of chasing success sets in, Lady Parts embark on recording their first album, juggling personal ambitions and deciding whether ‘making it big’ is really what they wanted.
We Are Lady Parts will be available to stream on Peacock beginning May 30th.
Not long ago I had a conversation with a friend who was lamenting the number of series that could, perhaps should, be movies instead. At the time I didn’t have any strong feelings either way. But I’m beginning to come around on the subject thanks to Jake Gyllenhaal’s upcoming AppleTV+ series, Presumed Innocent.
Scott Turow’s 1987 novel was adapted into a 1990 film starring Harrison Ford, Bonnie Bedelia, Raul Julia, Brian Dennehy, and a rogue’s gallery of “Oh, That Guy” of the time. When we reminisce about sexy, ’90s thrillers, Presumed Innocent tops a lot of lists. With apologies to Turow, I’m not sure if there’s enough meat on those bones to support an eight-episode series.
I’m also not sure that 2024 Jake Gyllenhaal is equal to 1990 Harrison Ford, but I know many people who would disagree with me on that. Ford did have a pretty terrible haircut in that one.
Presumed Innocent also stars Ruth Negga, and Lily Rabe. It begins streaming on AppleTV+ on June 14th.
Everybody say “Yes, Chef” for this week’s lagniappe! FX has hit us with just a subtle hint of a teaser for the next season of The Bear. It’s the tiniest of tastes but enough to whet our…appetites. All episodes of Season 3 will be available to stream on Hulu beginning on June 27th.
