Anglers netted some of the biggest specimens there are in the lakes at a Witney fishery this weekend.

Emma Rimmer landed her new personal best landing a 41lb 12oz carp at Gaunts Lake.

It was Ms Rimmer's first 40lb carp and she had no idea how big it was until she looked in the net.

Ben Oakes had a 'red letter session' on Manor Farm lake.

He landed 30 carp with a combined weight of over 800lb which included five carp weighing between 38lb and 44lb.

And on Brasenose Two lake Simon Lee set a new lake record common at 44lb 10oz.

Meanwhile, Gary Paul took advantage of a night fishing session to take photographs of the Northern Lights above St John's Lake.

All the fish were landed at Linear Fisheries off the B4449, near Hardwick Village, in Witney.

Alien-Like Fish Washes Up On American Coast For The First Time
A rare deep-sea fish has been discovered washed ashore in the USA for what is believed to be the first time ever. Beachcombers in Oregon stumbled upon the anglerfish, also called a Pacific football fish, just south of Cannon Beach. Seaside Aquarium said that “only 31 specimens have been recorded around the world” in places like New Zealand, Japan, Russia, Hawaii, Ecuador, Chile, and California. However, this is thought to be the first reported sighting of a Pacific football fish along the American coast. The fish discovered on the beach was identified as a female due to its size, as females are generally larger than males. Tiffany Boothe of Seaside Aquarium retrieved the fish, photographed it, and confirmed it was deceased. She stated: “Like other anglerfish, they use light that shines from a bulb on their forehead to attract prey. Food at the depths can be very sparse, so football fish are not picky eaters. They eat anything that can fit into their mouths.”

Orphaned California Black Bear Siblings Return to Wild
Two California black bear siblings were released back into the wild on May 15, after spending 10 months growing up at the San Diego Humane Society’s Ramona Wildlife Center.The Humane Society said the bears were first located in July 2023 when the California Department of Fish and Wildlife found their deceased mother. The bears were only 5 months old at the time, too young to survive on their own.The two were taken to the Ramona Wildlife Center, where San Diego Humane Society wildlife rehab specialists watched over them with little human contact until they were ready to be released. This footage shows the bears in their enclosure when they were brought in as cubs, and cuts to them grown up and running back into the San Bernardino National Forest where they were first found.The bears were microchipped, fitted with BGP collars, and given a clean bill of health before they were released.
