All Timothée Chalamet movies, ranked from worst to best

From Dune: Part Two to Call Me By Your Name.

preview for WONKA - Official Trailer - Warner Bros. UK

Timothée Chalamet's best movies show how essential the actor is in today's Hollywood landscape, as his latest work has become one of the biggest movies of 2024.

With Dune: Part Two arriving to streaming very soon, we are looking back at the actor's astonishing career to rank all of his movies from worst to best. What is Timothée Chalamet's best movie to date? Is it the critically acclaimed Call Me By Your Name, or last year's family-friendly hit Wonka?

Since debuting on screen during an episode of Law & Order at age 14, Chalamet has slowly risen to worldwide fame with a carefully crafted career, mostly avoiding big franchise-driven blockbusters (particularly superhero movies, as Leonardo DiCaprio advised him) and favouring independent productions and renowned directors like Denis Villeneuve, Wes Anderson, Greta Gerwig and Challengers' Luca Guadagnino.

That doesn't mean he is totally out of the mainstream — he's made two Netflix movies and is the lead in one of the highest-grossing sagas in Hollywood at the moment (we're talking about Dune, of course.)

In this list, we've left out a couple of minor projects, like Chalamet's modest feature film debut in Jason Reitman's Men, Women & Children, as well as his small appearances in Worst Friends and direct-to-video film The Adderall Diaries. We've also left out his rap as Lil Timmy Tim, because obviously that would go straight to No.1 and we can't have that.

    Love the Coopers (2015)

    Lionsgate

Before he rose to fame, Timothée Chalamet starred in this disappointing Christmas movie alongside Diane Keaton, John Goodman, Ed Helms, Olivia Wilde and Alan Arkin.

The story follows the Coopers during their annual Christmas Eve celebrations. We're talking about four generations of extended family coming together under the same roof with a myriad of problems and dramas they are way too happy to divulge.

A Rainy Day in New York (2020)

timothee chalamet, a rainy day in new york
    Perdido Productions

Timothée Chalamet starred alongside Selena Gómez and Elle Fanning in one of Woody Allen's many uninspired recent comedies.

The story follows two lovers who see their paths separated over the course of a day as they search for their own meanings of love. That's incredibly vague, we know, but the point here is not the story, but the many little mundane situations the characters encounter.

Chalamet sells the story with his co-stars, including Jude Law and Star Wars star Diego Luna, but nobody can save A Rainy Day in New York from itself.

    One & Two (2015)

kiernan shipka, timothee chalamet, one two
    IFC Films

Timothée Chalamet and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka play siblings in this forgettable fantasy thriller.

One & Two follows Zac and Eva, two teenagers with special powers who live isolated from the rest of the world. Their parents have them separated from the dangers (but also the wonders) of the real world, trapped behind an impenetrable wall that surrounds their home.

The premise is interesting, but the movie fails to make it work. It's definitely one of Timothée Chalamet's worst movies.

    Hot Summer Nights (2017)

    timothee chalamet, hot summer nights
    A24

Hot Summer Nights was released while Timothée Chalamet was starting to become Gen Z's new obsession, but we should probably count it as part of his not-great pre-fame era.

Also starring The Guest star Maika Monroe, the movie is set in the summer of 1991 on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, as a teenage boy gets way over his head with some local drug trafficking. Chalamet's character will spend many hot summer nights dealing with his rebellious partner and chasing his enigmatic sister.

Clearly, Chalamet was destined for more than this second-rate drama.

    Don't Look Up (2021)

    NIKO TAVERNISE/NETFLIX//Netflix

Netflix's star-studded film Don't Look Up imagined how our society would react to the end of the world, as a massive comet is on a direct collision course with Earth.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence led a colossal cast of supporting actors, including Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi and, of course, Timothée.

The actor plays a young shoplifter and Twitch streamer named Yule, who Lawrence's character befriends at one point in the film. And they make out too!

After the pandemic, Adam McKay's comedy rings uncomfortably true, even when the movie gets lost in its own excess.

    13

    Hostiles (2017)

    christian bale, timothee chalamet, hostiles
    Entertainment Studios

Christian Bale starred in this historical Western, which featured a small (but essential) role played by Timothée Chalamet.

Set in the late 19th century, Hostiles follows the US Army Captain Joseph Blocker (Bale) after he is assigned a secret mission by the President — to transport the Cheyenne war chief Yellow Hawk and his family safely home.

Chalamet plays a young private, Philippe Dejardin, who joins the mission's team despite having no combat experience. As Blocker's actions become questionable, Dejardin becomes a sort of moral compass for the story, and Chalamet offers the most emotional moments of the film.

    The French Dispatch (2021)

    Searchlight Pictures

This movie could not be mistaken for anything other than a Wes Anderson movie, and as such it includes gorgeously crafted settings, symmetrical images and a star-studded cast.

Timothée Chalamet is just one of the many actors (including Owen Wilson, Benicio del Toro, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Willem Dafoe, Saoirse Ronan, Bill Murray and more) living in Anderson's unique world.

The French Dispatch is divided into three different storylines, as the members of the fictional newspaper Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun present its final issue.

    11

    Interstellar (2014)

    timothee chalamet, interstellar
    Paramount

Christopher Nolan's Interstellar is one of the most critically acclaimed movies of the last decade, but it wouldn't be fair to rank it higher than this in a list of Timothée Chalamet's best movies — he is barely in it!

Before he rose to fame, the young actor played Matthew McConaughey's teenage son (the role is taken over by Casey Affleck later in the film) in this sci-fi epic, which follows a group of astronauts searching for a new home planet for humankind.

Chalamet was part of the cast alongside Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain, and despite his small role it was a great modest step towards Hollywood stardom.

    10

    The King (2019)

    The King, Timothee Chalamet
    Netflix

Even if he was totally outshone by Robert Pattison's delirious French accent, Timothée Chalamet did a decent job in Netflix's notable The King.

The actor plays a young Henry V as he becomes King of England in the 15th century, following his brother's death. He had been avoiding his royal obligations, and now he has to bring peace to a fractured Britain. No pressure.

With a stellar Joel Edgerton as the young King's mentor John Falstaff, David Michôd's film takes Shakespeare's work about Henry V and turned it into an enjoyable historical drama.

    Beautiful Boy (2018)

beautiful boy timothee chalamet and steve carell
    Amazon Studios

Chalamet delivered some serious drama acting in Beautiful Boy, a clichéd (but deeply moving) story about drug addiction.

Starring opposite Steve Carrell, the young actor played Nicolas Sheff, a teenager who gets addicted to meth. He was the perfect son, juggling his studies, numerous leisure activities and passionate interests, but one day everything fell apart.

As Nic seems unable to find a way out, his father (Carrell) will do anything to save him. Expect many tear-jerker moments, as well as some great acting scenes between the two leads.

    8

    Miss Stevens (2016)

lily rabe, timothee chalamet, miss stevens
    The Orchard

Julia Hart's 78-minute dramedy Miss Stevens is delightful, and one of Timothée Chalamet's best movies (and most underappreciated too).

Starring Lily Rabe and Riverdale star Lili Reinhart, the story follows an English teacher who volunteers to chaperone a small group of high school students who are travelling over the weekend to a drama competition.

None of them expected that this road trip was going to be so life-changing, but it was!

    7

    Wonka (2023)

    timothee chalamet, wonka
    Warner Bros.

You can't say Timothée Chalamet doesn't like to take risks.

Despite being known for more subdued roles, he took on the massive challenge of embodying joy itself as a younger version of Willy Wonka in Paul King's box-office hit Wonka.

With Hugh Grant playing an Oompa-Loompa, the movie tells the untold origin story of the young chocolate maker, who dreams of opening a shop in the prestigious Galeries Gourmet. To do so, he will have to face the greedy Chocolate Cartel with the help of orphan Noodle (Calah Lane).

    Lady Bird (2017)

    timothee chalamet, lady bird
    A24

Despite his supporting role, Timothée Chalamet's performance in Lady Bird is simply amazing.

Written and directed by Barbie's Greta Gerwig, the movie follows high school senior Christine 'Lady Bird' McPherson (played by Saoirse Ronan) as she attempts to make the most of her life despite a turbulent relationship with her mother Marion (Laurie Metcalf).

The teenager falls (hard) for a leather-jacket type of guy named Kyle, and Chalamet embodies his coolness to perfection — he is the kind of serious, mysterious teen who reads books by the pool while others get drunk and thinks you're not like the other girls.

    Dune (2021)

timothee chalament as paul atreides and rebecca ferguson as lady jessica atreides in dune 2020
    Chiabella James//Warner Bros.

After working mostly in independent movies, Timothée Chalamet gave a massive career jump by securing the role of Paul Atreides in Dennis Villeneuve's Dune.

With this huge and star-studded Hollywood production, he proved he has leading-man material.

Adapted from Frank Herbert's beloved novel, the movie follows Paul to Arrakis, a desert planet at war where the House of Atreides will fall and a long-awaited Messiah will be born to lead the Fremen people to salvation.

Released during the pandemic, Dune didn't have as much impact initially as it would have in ordinary circumstances, but it still blew away audiences enough to grant a sequel (which is now a box office sensation).

    Bones and All (2022)

timothee chalamet, taylor russell, bones and all
Yannis Drakoulidis / Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures

After working together in Call Me By Your Name, Chalamet reunited with director Luca Guadagnino for this shocking cannibal romance.

Also starring Taylor Russell, Bones and All centres on two young lovers who embark on a 3,000-mile journey through the backroads of America. They are running away from their pasts, as well as from a society that doesn't really understand their... hunger.

Chalamet and Russell give incredible performances in this atypical and deeply fascinating road movie, which is always deliciously unexpected.

    Little Women (2019)

    timothee chalamet, little women
    Netflix

The stars of Little Women are, well, the little women played by Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen and Emma Watson, but Timothée Chalamet's Laurie didn't go unnoticed.

Reuniting with director Greta Gerwig after Lady Bird, the actor took on the role of the March sisters' neighbour, and his chemistry first with Ronan's Jo and later on with Pugh's Amy is incredible.

An Oscar-nominated movie, Gerwig's Little Women proved Louisa May Alcott's beloved novel can still be adapted in new and exciting ways if you have the perfect cast to back it up.

    2

    Dune: Part Two (2024)

    timothee chalame, dune part two
    Niko Tavernise/Warner Bros

Dune's sequel became a global phenomenon upon its release last March 2024, with Timothée Chalamet delivering an impressive performance as Paul Atreides.

Following Dune, the sequel centres on Paul and his mother Lady Jessica as they take refuge among the Fremen after the Harkonnen have taken control of Arrakis. While growing closer to Chani (Zendaya) and drifting away from his mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), Paul faces an internal conflict as the Fremen start to see him as their long-awaited Messiah.

Denis Villeneuve's epic conquered the world, and now is one of Timothée Chalamet's best movies.

Call Me By Your Name (2017)

call me by your name lgbtq
    Sony Pictures

Call Me By Your Name is the movie that turned Timothée Chalamet into a global star. It's also the only movie (so far) that got him a Best Actor nomination at the Oscars, and it was much-deserved.

Luca Guadagnino's beautiful romance centres on 17-year-old Elio (Chalamet), who is spending the summer of 1983 in his family's rural villa in Northern Italy. His father invites 24-year-old American graduate student Oliver (played by Armie Hammer) to stay with them, and Elio falls in love with him.

Chalamet, then 22, offered a career-making performance in this adaptation of André Aciman's 2007 novel, and secured his place as one of the most promising young actors in Hollywood.
