Tottenham hold talks over Morgan Gibbs-White deal – sources

Tottenham have held discussions over a transfer move to sign Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest this summer.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Forest may have to cash in on one of their big names this summer in an attempt to balance the books.

O’Rourke explained that should Forest decide to sell this summer, Ange Postecoglou’s side will make their move to sign the 24-year-old midfielder.

Football Insider revealed on 10 May that Forest have placed an increased £60million price tag on their star man ahead of the summer transfer window, with a “huge” fee needed to let him go.

Sources also told Football Insider that Tottenham are in pole position to sign Gibbs-White this summer despite interest from Newcastle.

Tottenham want to sign Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White

Gibbs-White has recorded five goals and ten assists in 36 Premier League appearances this season – his most productive year in front of goal so far.

This has attracted interest from both Tottenham and Newcastle as England’s elite sides look set to battle for his signature.

Having arrived at Nottingham Forest from Wolves for an initial £25million fee in 2022, with a further £17.5million in add-ons, meaning a £60million sale would represent a valuable profit.

Forest have found themselves in financial trouble this season, receiving a four-point deduction for a breach of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

This means they may be forced into some big sales this summer in an attempt to balance the books, putting potential buyers including Tottenham on alert.
