WEATHER AWARE: Storms bring heavy rain for Saturday

Columbus, Ga (WRBL)- We are Weather Aware for the start of the weekend. These storms are producing heavy rain and frequent cloud to ground lightning. Be careful heading out this morning because there is a lot of standing water on the roads and even some debris from this morning’s storms.

These storms will continue through the early afternoon hours and there will be better chances for severe weather as the storms move further eastward. Our primary threat today remains flash flooding after the rainfall we saw yesterday. However, damaging winds, small hail, and a brief tornado cannot be ruled out later today.

After a brief break late this evening, a short wave of storms will move in from the north. This will will bring a few storms to our northern counties before weakening. A few of these could be strong as well.

Conditions will start to dry out tomorrow and temperatures will warm into the 80s as we see more sunshine. Some areas could still see a sporadic shower in the afternoon.

Heading into next week a dry spell begins, and readings will reach into the 90s by Thursday. Our next chance of rain will move back into the forecast at the end of next week.
