Jacqueline Brown "Jackie" Hering, 93, lifelong resident of Westminster, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Carroll Hospital Center. Born October 17, 1930 in Frederick, Maryland she was the daughter of the late John Roscoe and Minnie Belle (Marquette) Brown. She was the cherished wife of the late William Fenby "Bill" Hering, who predeceased her on August 1, 2002. Jackie was a graduate of Westminster High School, class of 1947; and furthered her education receiving a bachelor's degree from Western Maryland College in 1951. She was a Home Economics Teacher in the Carroll County Public School Systems, until becoming a devoted homemaker. Jackie was a long-time member of Westminster United Methodist Church since 1942. She was dedicated to her faith and served within her church community in various capacities including co-president of the Myriam Circle, and was a Sunday School Teacher. She was an Alumni Rep on the Board of Trustees at Western Maryland College, and was honored as Alumni of the Year. She was the class representative for "The Hill" articles, and a member of the Future Homemaker of America. She was a proud member of "The Women of Lewis Hall", a classified group of women responsible for sending and receiving coded messages between federal agencies in the event of a cataclysmic attack- in the basement of Lewis Hall at Western Md College. Jackie was a charter member of the GFWC Junior Woman's Club of Westminster where she served as President from 1955-1957, and joined the Woman's Club of Westminster where she was currently an active member and served as President from 1976-1978, and served as president of the GFWC Maryland's Western District from 1982-1984. Jackie's love for reading was instrumental in her co-chairing of the Dr. Seuss Days in many schools within Carroll County. She continued her support for this program until recent years. Jackie enjoyed playing bridge and gardening. She was a mentor and role model to many. She cherished her family and many friends. Surviving her are daughters Renee Kuhn and partner John Crawford, Diane Groft and Randy, all of Westminster; grandchildren Andrew Kuhn and wife Jessica, Kara Howard and husband Dustin, Brennon Kuhn, Ashley Graff and husband Kevin, Ryan Groft and wife Lauren; great-grandchildren Olivia, Ava, Nathan, Madison, Carsyn, Hayley, and Harper. In addition to her parents and husband, Jackie was predeceased by her son-in-law, Bill Kuhn. Family will welcome friends on Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. Funeral services will be Friday, May 17th at 10:30 am at Westminster United Methodist Church, 165 E. Main St., Westminster MD 21157, with her pastor Rev. Malcolm Stranathan officiating. Interment in Westminster Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Westminster United Methodist Church, or BridgingLife Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster MD 21157.
