Michael Wayne Taliaferro OBITUARY

NEWPORT NEWS – Michael Wayne Taliaferro was born on October 13, 1951, to the late Mae and Horace Taliaferro, Sr., of Newport News, Virginia. He was called home to be with his Lord, on July 20, 2015. At an early age, Michael confessed his faith in Christ and became a dedicated member of Rising Sun Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and Bible Study, for many years. He loved, serving God, his church family and the community, with an optimistic and humorous spirit. He loved reading and studying God’s Word and took every opportunity to share that Word. He attended Denbigh High School, where he excelled in basketball and track and field. Shortly after graduating, he served his country in the United States Army. After being Honorably Discharged, he attended Virginia State University, where he became a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and graduated with a Degree in Economics. While attending Virginia State University, he met his wife of thirty-four years, Clara “Jennie” Taliaferro. Michael had a successful career in the insurance industry and retired after several years, as one of the top sales agents. After retirement, he worked for many years as a bail bondsman. He leaves to cherish his blessed memories, his wife, Clara “Jennie” Taliaferro; his daughters, Frances M. Perry and Brandy M. Taliaferro; his son, Wayne A Taliaferro; his grandson, Marques Perry; his siblings, Horace Taliaferro, Jr., Judith B Quesonova (Raoul), Joelle Taliaferro, and Jaqueline Williams; his aunts, Martha Jones, Geraldine Borum, Alice Armstead, and Carrie Miles; his uncle, Haywood Vernon (Lorraine); nieces, nephews, and a host of other wonderful relatives and many caring friends. A Homegoing service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015, in Grafton Baptist Church, Harris Grove, 1301 Old York-Hampton Hwy, Yorktown, with Rev. Reginald Bagley, Pastor and Rev. David O. Spratley officiating. Interment to follow in Rising Sun Baptist Church Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 860 Yorkshire Lane, Newport News by 12:00 noon on Saturday. Mr. Taliaferro may be viewed only in the church on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of his service.
