Ahead of the release of Ana de Armas' Ballerina, another John Wick spinoff movie has been announced. Donnie Yen, who appeared in John Wick: Chapter 4, will reprise his role for the new film.

Per THR, Yen will return as Caine in a new John Wick movie. The untitled spinoff is scheduled to start shooting in Hong Kong in 2025 and doesn't yet have a set release date. While exact plot details haven't been released, the film will be set after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4, following Caine after he's been "freed from his obligations to the High Table." A director hasn't yet been named, and Yen is the only cast member currently attached. Robert Askins is writing the script.

“Working on John Wick: Chapter 4 was an extraordinary experience," Yen said in a statement to address the spinoff news. "The reason these films resonate so deeply is because, like myself, Chad [Stahelski], Basil [Iwanyk], and Erica [Lee] push themselves to create action, fights and stunts that are not only thrilling, inventive and artistic, but also expressive of character, story and emotion. Caine is an incredible character with a haunted past, and I am excited to return to the role."

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chairman Adam Fogelson added, “From the moment Donnie Yen appeared on screen in John Wick: Chapter 4, he captivated audiences and created an authentic, emotional connection that left an indelible mark and had fans asking for more.”

Chad Stahelski is developing the spinoff as part of a major deal with Lionsgate to further expand the John Wick universe. He's producing via 87Eleven Entertainment and overseeing the project alongside Thunder Road's Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee.

John Wick Gets Another Spinoff

This film will be the second spinoff movie for the franchise following Ballerina starring Ana de Armas. That film, which is set before the events of John Wick: Chapter 4 --- allowing for cameos from Keanu Reeves and Lance Reddick --- will be released on June 6, 2025. The franchise also had a prequel series, The Continental, which streamed for one season on Peacock. The three-episode series featured a new cast playing younger versions of familiar John Wick characters, diving into the history of The Continental.
