Timothy Andrew Wharton passed away May 10th at his Parkersburg home following an extended illness. He was 61

Tim was born Feb. 4, 1963, the son of the late Robert R. Wharton and Kathleen Ann (Flood) Wharton of Parkersburg.

Tim was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army following graduation. He proudly served as an M-1 tank commander at Fort Bliss Texas, where he was awarded an Army Commendation medal for his service from 1984-92. Tim also won an army achievement medal for his performance as a gunner and tank commander. His enthusiasm and esprit de corps contributed to the success of the unit. His efforts reflected great credit to himself and his regiment.

Following his honorable discharge, Wharton went on to drive for UPS for more than 27 years in Denver Colorado. He was proud of his spotless driving record and his membership with the Teamsters Union. Following retirement, he returned to Parkersburg to be closer to his immediate family.

Wharton is survived by his wife of 20 years Janet Heritage of Parkersburg. His daughter Elizabeth Carpenter and granddaughter Aspen of Wheat Ridge, Colorado.

His brother John (Karen Hannah) Wharton of Kenna, WV.; Jim (fiancée Jill McCune) Wharton of Parkersburg; Rev. Paul J. Wharton of South Charleston, Jerry (Crystal) Wharton, Blacksburg, Va.; Bill Wharton of Parkersburg; Steve (Catherine) Wharton of Parkersburg; David (Peggy) Wharton of Belpre, OH; and sister Marilyn (Mark) Ford of Columbus, Ohio. Tim is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Wharton was preceded in death by his brother Bob Wharton, and his sisters Susan Lovell and Kathy Luciano.

Cremation will take place with a memorial service at St Margaret Mary Catholic Church Saturday, May 18, at 11 am with Rev. Steve Vallelonga presiding, and Rev. Paul Wharton, homilist. Inurnment to follow Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10-11am at the church.
