Seoul-based film sales company, Finecut has notched pre-sales for its upcoming action-comedy “The Desperate Chase, which it is launching this week at the Cannes Film Festival‘s Cannes Market,.
The film is an action comedy featuring a hot-blooded detective and a swindler who is also a master of disguise who team up to combat an evil mafia. Early rights buyers include Rights Cube for Japan, Apex Success Global for Taiwan and Mockingbird Pictures for Vietnam.
Screening as a rough cut in the Cannes Market, the film is the second feature by Kim Jae-hoon, known for his debut with the body-switch action thriller “Devils,” which released in South Korea last year. “The Desperate Chase” is produced by Contents G and The Contents On, the production company behind the 2022 genre film “Project Wolf Hunting” that Finecut previously handled.
Ahead of Cannes, Finecut added more sales deals for its Toronto-launched drama film “A Normal Family.” Directed by Hur Jin-ho, the film is a critically-acclaimed retelling of a Herman Koch novel “The Dinner.” Variety’s review of the film called it “an incredibly well-acted drama [that] asks audiences to put themselves in the shoes of parents horrified to discover what their teenage children are capable of.”

Rights were picked up by Room 8 Films for the U.S., by Noacs for the CIS region, Wanin International for Taiwan, Nachshon Films for Israel, Discovery for ex-Yugoslavia and Providence Filmes for Brazil. This is in addition to previously announced sales to distributors in France (Diaphana Distribution), Vietnam (Lumix Media), and inflight (Encore Inflight Limited).
Finecut is also giving market premieres to “Exorcism Chronicles: The Beginning,” an animated adaptation of a best-selling Korean occult novel; “Victory,” a drama centered around cheerleading; and “Mother’s Kingdom,” a tension-driven drama that portrays a mother losing her memory due to dementia and her son gaining his lost memories back.
