Join National Simultaneous Storytime, Soar Into Reading

Georges River Council

Georges River Council is excited to announce a live broadcast of the National Simultaneous Storytime at Hurstville Plaza on Wednesday 22 May 2024.

The National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, family day cares, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.

Join Georges River Libraries as we livestream Bowerbird Blues read by Aura Parker this National Simultaneous Storytime at Hurstville Plaza. Children are invited to have fun parading around with a giant cockatoo and rainbow lorikeet and enjoy a bird themed craft workshop run by library staff. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket and some lunch for a fun day out with feathered friends.

Georges River Council Mayor Sam Elmir said, "National Simultaneous Storytime isn't just about reading a single book at the same time across the country; it's about developing a collective love for storytelling and instilling the joy of reading, igniting children's imaginations and expanding their horizons.

"This also strengthens community bonds, uniting families, early learning centres, schools, libraries, and institutions in a shared literary experience. Through stories, we connect, empathize, and grow together, shaping a brighter future for generations to come."

Georges River Libraries have also scheduled free sessions at all libraries:
