PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A suspect surrendered overnight following a standoff that began after a 70-year-old member of his family was shot five times, the Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) reported.
According to the police department, the victim fled from a home on Southeast Elrose Court around 11:15 p.m. on Friday and headed to a neighbor’s house for help. She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening wounds, the statement indicated.
When police officers arrived, they locked down the area and surrounded the home while waiting for the SWAT and Crisis Negotiation teams as well as drone operators to arrive, PSLPD stated.

Once on-scene, an armored loudspeaker was set up and authorities began urging the suspect, identified as Tarrant West, to surrender.
West, 71, eventually did come out of the home and was arrested without further incident, the police department noted. He was booked into jail on counts of attempted homicide, five counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, and simple battery.
