Pad Gra Prow ingredients

Farang here. I’m planning to make pad gra prow. The recipe I’m using calls for Thai-specific fish sauce, thin soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, and oyster sauce. I already have at home Japanese light soy, Vietnamese fish sauce (Red Boat N40), and both good quality Chinese and Japanese oyster sauces. I don’t already have sweet soy sauce, so I’ll go out and purchase it. Can any of the ingredients I already own be used in place of the Thai versions? If not, what Thai brands do you recommend? Thanks !

I use a red Boat fish sauce it is very good. Usually 2 TS oyster sauce 1 tsp fish sauce 1 tsp golden mountain or soy sauce. To make the sauce for two servings. Add water if you want a little more sauce for the rice.

Red Boat makes the best Prik Nam Pla

Squid and Golden Boy are both great Thai brands of fish sauce.

Healthy Boy makes a really good sweet soy sauce. You can use ABC kecap manis as an alternative.

Healthy Boy mushroom light (thin) soy sauce is what I use. I love the umami tones it adds.

For oyster sauce I use Maekrua. It’s one of the few oyster sauces that isn’t a flavoured sauce. My guidance for using oyster sauce is to just make sure it isn’t the flavoured stuff, you can REALLY taste the difference.

Happy cooking mate!

Thanks man !

Also, you can use everything you currently have and then just cycle into the brands I’ve listed.
