NFL star Harrison Butker got slammed at a recent Pearl Jam concert by Eddie Vedder, as the rock star criticised Butker’s now infamous speech on Christian values, and the idea of masculinity.
Ever since the speech dropped, the Chiefs player has been getting criticism from everyone, including fans and the NFL itself for his statements which he continues to stand for. Here’s what Vedder had to say about Harrison Butker’s speech, and how the Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt’s wife and daughter reacted to his misogynistic speech.
Eddie Vedder Slams Harrison Butker For His Speech On Christian Values
Eddie Vedder, the frontman of Pearl Jam, couldn’t help but criticize Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker for his contentious speech while addressing graduating students at Benedictine College, during the band’s Saturday performance at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
During the performance, Vedder briefly stopped between songs to ask the crowd to applaud the band’s opening act, the indie rock group Deep See Diver. Vedder mentioned that the main singer of the band is one of the two female members of the group.
In a jab at Butker’s philosophy, Vedder remarked, “The singer, Jessica, and the keyboard player, Patti, they must not have believed that ‘diabolical lie’ that women should take pride in taking a back seat to their man,”
Addressing Harrison directly, Eddie continued, “The irony was that the football player — well, kicker … You see the kicker doesn’t have the pads because he doesn’t tackle anybody or get tackled — but he started telling men, ‘Don’t forget to puff up your chest and be more masculine. Don’t lose your masculinity.’ The irony was that when he was saying that, he looked like such a f—ing p—-.”
“There’s nothing more masculine than a strong man supporting a strong woman,” Vedder concluded as the audience showered him applause.

Kansas City Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt’s Wife Reacts To Harrison’s Speech
Despite the NFL being strongly against Butker’s speech, Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt’s wife Tavis Hunt seems to be one of the few people subscribed to Harrison’s views as she took to social media to defend the NFL player and the hate he’s getting.
Tavia, who has been a stay-at-home mom and has been married to Hunt for more than 30 years, wrote, “I’ve always encouraged my daughters to be highly educated and chase their dreams. I want them to know that they can do whatever they want (that honors God). But I also want them to know that I believe finding a spouse who loves and honors you as or before himself and raising a family together is one of the greatest blessings this world has to offer.”
She then added a few lines of defence towards Butker, saying, “Affirming motherhood and praising your wife, as well as highlighting the sacrifice and dedication it takes to be a mother, is not bigoted. It is empowering to acknowledge that a woman’s hard work in raising children is not in vain. Countless highly educated women devote their lives to nurturing and guiding their children. Someone disagreeing with you doesn’t make them hateful; it simply means they have a different opinion.”
Not just Tavia, her daughter Gracie Hunt too defended Harrison’s speech and said, “I’ve had the most incredible mom who had the ability to stay home and be with us as kids growing up. And I understand that there are many women out there who can’t make that decision. But for me and my life, I know it was really formative and in shaping me and my siblings into who we are.” When asked if she agrees with what Butker said in his speech, the 25 year old said, “For sure, and I really respect Harrison and his Christian faith and what he’s accomplished on and off the field.”
